...oh, and what is an internal exam exactly?

I tried to google it but didn't come up with anything. What do they do exactly? Everyone says they're so painful, so I'm just curious.

    They aren't that bad.  The closest I can relate it to is a pelvic exam during your annual.  They just check your cervix and it is over very quickly.

    I've only had one but it was not in the least bit painful, and I had no spotting or anything after. Basically, it felt like the pelvic exam without the speculum.

    That's pretty much it.  Some people experience pain, others don't.  Some OB's do them, others don't.

    It's not bad...I've had four now. I HATE going for my annual, I dread it, but it's not any worse than that. Definitely didn't hurt, just feels like fingers shoved up there, which it is and it's super fast.
