cleaning bath toys?

Do you clean DC's bath toys?  There are a few that I wipe down and his cups and stuff that I put in the dishwasher.  But he has those foam-like letters and numbers.  I was thinking of soaking them in vinegar water....do you think they'll hold up?

  • I've been wondering the same thing.  The girls' rubber duckies and other 'squirting' toys get crud built up inside of them after a while and I usually end up just tossing them.  I'll be curious to see what others do!

  • Ewww....I threw all his ducks away a few months ago.  They were all kinds of nasty.  Those letters were cheap enough....I'm thinking I may try it in vinegar and see what happens.  If they disintegrate then I'll just pick up some new ones.  But they feel slimy....they need cleaned!!!

  • Vinegar should be fine on the foam letters.  That's my preferred cleaner for bath toys.  I did have to soak all of the hard plastic toys in bleach water because of the nice pink mildew that gets in the toy bag.  I also pitched a bunch of squirt toys too.  I have a mesh toy bag now, so when I clean the tub, I spray cleaner at the toys in the bag and rinse well with the shower sprayer.  It has worked so far.  No more pink crud.

  • About once a month I do a bleach rinse on her toys. I fill the tub with hot water and bleach. Let sit for a couple of minutes, then I drain and rinse using cold water to be put away. I do all her foam letters this way and everyhing is still intact.

  • The foam letters can be run through the washing machine.  (I haven't tried the dryer.)
