Update on Iris's skin condition

Took Iris in for a second opinion about her oozing scalp today with another pedi in the practice and she's treating her for impetigo. I am @#*!!! pissed that the last pedi told me to scrub the spot with a toothbrush and soap. That is a seriously infectious skin condition that I may have just moved around her whole head.

I was in the process of switching practices and will for sure now.

I'm so angry and feel like a bad mommy for doing that to my sweet baby. :-(

  • Oh geesh.  I never even thought about that one when I replied to your post.  Yikes.  Do NOT beat yourself over this one.  I probably would have tried self treating for some time before calling a doc.  Glad the doc has you on a good plan for ridding the infection.  So many kids get impetigo.  It will be ok.  Glad you got insight on where you need to be for pedi services, and so sorry you had to go through all that to find answers.

  • I am so glad you got a 2nd opinion, and I don't blame you one bit for being helluva pissed, because I would be too.  It is so easy with medicine to lump it into 'what you think it should be' instead of taking a closer look.  Yeah, it's one thing to make a mistake, but to mistake that for something infectious?  Grrr....  GL in your search for a new pedi; I don't blame you in the least.  Here's to hoping for a speedy recover for Iris!
  • Seriously, you did nothing wrong. Any parent would have thought it was cradle cap-- I have never even heard of a baby that young getting impetigo. When you switch practices, I'd make it a point to let them know why.

  • Oh my goodness!  I would be so mad!  You are not a bad mommy. I think we all would have taken the doctor's word at first.

  • Wow, I'd be p!ssed too! Poor girl! Luckily she has a momma smart enough to think to get a second opinion....hopefully she'll be on the mend soon.

  • I'm so sorry that your going through this.

I hope that you let your old pedi know about their mistake, so they don't make the same mistake with someone else. Good luck with your search to find a new pedi.
