If your OB has already said "you have to have a c-section", how did you pick the date? Since I know they won't let me go past 38.5 weeks, and that puts me at the Tuesday before Thanksgiving (11/23), I was thinking maybe we could do it the Friday before that (11/19) so I'd have more time to recover and hopefully be home from the hospital before Thanksgiving.
Assuming this is a safe option for me and LO both, do you think that's a reasonable request? I would be at 38 weeks exactly on the 19th.

Camryn Grace ~ July 6th, 2009 ~ 7lbs 9oz, 20.5"
Brayden Richard Drew ~ December 20, 2010~7lbs 9oz, 20"
Mostly I think it's because she's so big already. She's in the 97th percentile and he said he's never seen a baby in the 97th at this point. Also, given that my GD is being controlled by medication, he doesn't feel comfortable going to 39 weeks. He's pretty conservative when it comes to taking a chance letting GD babies grow. Of course, I'm being monitored closely with twice weekly NSTs and I'll be having a u/s at 37 and 38 weeks to check on her. He also said that in GD babies, the risk of stillbirth increases at/after 39-40 weeks.
Ohhh, well FWIW, DD measured 2 weeks ahead and every appt and the morning I had her, I had an u/s to estimate her weight and they had her at 8.5-9lbs and she was only 7lbs 9oz.
But I think 38.5 weeks is fine...most are just soo conservative now with the new ACOG recommenations

He said the ACOG now recommends a c/s for a GD baby at 4500 grams (9.9lbs) when it used to be recommended at 4000g (8.8lbs). She was measured at 5lbs 15oz a week ago (roughly 2700g) and assuming she grows at .5lbs a week...we're headed towards a 9.5-10lb baby at 40 weeks, but could be more because of the GD. He's more conservative because of the 10% error rate with u/s. She could be smaller, but it would be scary if she was bigger and I tried to go vaginally. He'd rather get her out before I go into labor on my own.
12/3 is also my edd and my c/s is also on 11/23. my ob does c/s anywhere from 8-10 days prior to edd, unless there's a problem and they need to get the baby out earlier. from what i hear, most ob's like to deliver closer to the 39th week as possible but will deliver early if medically needed.
so as far as things are going with me, being on blood pressure medication, seeing a high risk ob and all, he would like me to make it until 11/23 but he said if things got worse he would take the baby out earlier, so we'll just have to wait and see!
Mine is scheduled for Dec. 15 and I'll be 39wks exactly. My dr. wouldn't go any earlier than that, and I wanted the date pushed back as far away from Christmas as possible.
