NBR: Proactiv?

Anyone use it?  I'm thinking of trying it out, and was just curious if anyone has any feedback.

Re: NBR: Proactiv?

  • It works for most people. But if you have sensitive skin or skin that is prone to dry out it won't be good for you.  It completely dried my face out. But i have friends that love it.

  • I used it and really liked it.  It made my skin super soft, didn't overdry and cleared me up fairly well.  I always had trouble with my skin getting too dry or flakey when I tried to treat acne, and Proactive didn't do that at all.  My skin gets perfect during pregnancy......so I haven't used it in a while.  But I have a feeling I will be back on it in no time once this little guy is born.  Grrr.

  • My DH used it and it caused more harm than good.
  • The lady I used to see for skin care treatments, whose opinion I valued to the highest regard, told me that stuff was bad news for skin. I'm sure it works for some people but it can also create a vicious cycle of skin problems while using it and some of the ingredients can thin and dry your skin out.

If you want to know some of the products she recommends, let me know!

  • My sister uses it and has for years - its the only thing that works for her and she loves it. I'm sure everyone's skin is different, but it really cleared up her skin and keeps her at a good balance, not too dry, not to oily. She swears by it.
  • I had some flare-ups before pregnancy, and ProActiv took care of them better than anything. I used it for about two years, got pregnant, and then after pregnancy, my skin was awful and even ProActiv didn't help. I ended up on Accutane for five months and that finally did it. I'm back to my ProActiv regimen with no complaints. I think it really depends on your skin type. It's probably too much for very mild breakouts, but if you need something stronger, it's worth trying.

  • I tried it several years ago.  It made my skin so irritated and flaky, then the acne became much worse.  It took me months to get my skin to look normal again.  Waste of money IMO.  Go to a derm and follow their recos.  Thank goodness, the acne died a slow death.  I feel your pain.
