Parenting after a Loss

I'm scared to death she's going to get whooping cough. :(

Four confirmed cases at my school.  Indifferent Between that and the bed bugs at school I am ready to lose it. Ugh!!!!

My babysitter's family had whooping cough last year and they had to be quarentined (or however you spell it) to their house for FIVE days. She was saying that she was coughing so hard that she'd throw up four or five times a day. How in the world would a little baby deal with that?  Sad It scares me so much.

I got a vaccine yesterday so I hope that's enough to keep me from bringing it home to DD. Fingers crossed!

  • Ah, ok. Well, for both you and Cara, if you are on the standard vaccine schedule, they get one at 2 months, one at 4 months, and I believe another one at 6 months? You can find the schedule on the CDC website.

Each dose gives them incrementally more protection/

  • Oh boy!  I hope she doesn't get it, whooping cough is scary.  I don't want to scare you, but it takes about 2 weeks after vaccination for full immunity to kick in, so just be careful and practice good hand hygiene!

  • I hear ya.....what is the deal with these outbreaks? Is it just a natural occurrence or is it because so many people are choosing NOT to immunize. Maybe they need to mandate boosters more frequently. I think women should get one post partum, I wish I had :(  I was exposed to it recently as well and PRAYING I dont get it and expose DS who has only had 2 DTaps so far (only 5 months). And to make matters worse I am a Peds ICU  nurse, so I have seen it all, and can easily create worst case scenarios in my head, boo. Hope you guys are OK. You teachers get exposed to more than we do :( At least we can put "suspect" kids in isolation.
