This would have been good for P. He got 9 and 9 on his apgars and still ended up having a hole in his lung and RDS, none of which was noticed by the team of doctors and nurses in our room during his birth. I am sure that the new test would have picked up on something so I didn't need to call a nurse back in to evaluate his labored breathing 30 minutes later.
If this was a FB post, I would super 'like' this article! DD received 8 and then 9 on her apgars, and she spent 12 days in the NICU. However, I think this new method of evaluating preemie babies would definitely be beneficial. The newborn's special circumstances would be more closely analyzed via this test, it appears.
