So I know I want to breast feed and pump eventually but I am still debating on when to buy a pump and what kind I will actually need there are so many choices. Any one have any tips? I did take a breastfeeding course but the teacher didnt focus on pumping at all.
Re: To buy a breast pump or wait?
I bought a Medela PISA. I haven't opened it yet, just in case BF doesn't work out.
Well, I had mine ahead of time and I'm really glad I did. My milk came in at day three, and DS was still having some latch issues. I was able to pump while I got the issues resolved. If you don't want to buy yet, i would consider renting until you decide if BF works for you or not.
I would recommend getting one ahead of time. I have never went through it myself yet, but when my sister had my neice she had a really hard time for the first couple of days and had to send her DH out to buy one at the last minute. They ended up just getting what was available around here and not the model etc they would have wanted to get if they were not needed it right that minute. She was then able to pump while she waited for a lacatation consultant to come and help get them better established. From then on she had no problems at all but still used the pump a lot for nights she wanted a couple of drinks or was going out, etc. She highly recommended to me that I had one ready to use before the baby arrives or there is a good chance that I will give up on breastfeeding. (Or as PP said you could ask about renting one).
