Getting to bed earlier?

My LO is 2.5 months old and quite the night owl! We'll have her ready for bed (bathed, changed, BFed, read to, rocked) by 8:30pm and she just will not go to bed! It's sometimes a two hour ordeal to get her sleepy enough to put her in her crib. I'm going back to work in two and a half weeks and I'd like to help make sure she's able to get up early with me to get ready to go to daycare. Any tips in trying to transition her to getting to bed earlier?

  • I can't help you but I'm just letting you know that you're not alone!! We're going through the same thing...

I'm looking forward to tips/hints that others have!

  • You could try keeping her up a few hours before bed. DD mostly stays awake from 8 or 9 til 12:30 when we put her to bed and she usually goes right to sleep.

  • I keep LO up from 6:30 till bed. I give him a bath about 8:30/9, feed him and he almost always down by 10.
  • Make sure LO is getting enough sleep during the day.  Keep her awake for a few hours before bed.. try cluster feeding and a warm bath.. swaddle and a warm bottle.  Maybe 830 is a little too early for a 2 month old.. shoot for 10 (bath at 930 & last bottle at 10)

  • It could also be that 8:30 is too late.  Is she sleepy a little earlier in the evening?  Maybe by 8:30 she's overtired.  My LO is pretty tired and cranky by 6-6:30pm.  We start the bedtime routine at 7pm and he's usually completely zonked by the time I get into the rocking chair at 8pm - rock 15 minutes and in bed!

Definitely make sure her last nap is at least 2 hours before bedtime!  That definitely messes up my LO's schedule :)
