Liquid poop every feeding??

My DD is a week old, and is getting almost all breastmilk now that my milk finally came in. Every time she eats, it's like clockwork...eats, burps a bit, gets really tensed up and seems gassy, and then poops straight liquid that you can hear coming out. It happens every single time so she's pooping like 8-9 times a day. I'm just curious if this is normal?

Re: Liquid poop every feeding??

  • Far as I know it's normal. My LC told me that as long as it's not running down the legs, through the diaper, then it's all good. Also said there is no such things as too many poopy diapers, that it means you are doing a wonderful job at feeding her! HTH!

  • Same exact thing happened to DS. He still has exploding yellow bird seed poop at 3 1/2 weeks. Pedi said it is normal. Congrats on your LO!
  • Isnt it hilarious how loud they poop. And sometime it will leak out.  BF babies can poop 20 times a day or no times a day, My LO's is liquidy yellow and looks seedy.  If a baby has diarrhea it will be like water.  It sounds like you just have a happy baby.

  • that is exactly what your LO should be doing.

Don't worry there will be plenty of time for normal turds in your future.

  • Yep totally normal. LO shouldn't have solid poops until she's on solid food. Go by color for now. If it's yellow, brown or green it's normal. If it's black, red or white, call the pedi.
