Why do ex's have to be a pain

DD's father sent a text to me yesterday through my old roommate asking for the ring he gave me back which happens to hold DD birth stone in it, I've had this ring for almost 2 yrs and he is just now asking for it back. I think partly cause he was served with child support papers and he is ticked about it.. I was going to give it to DD when she was old enough to wear it considering it holds her birthstone and it was from her dad.. Should I keep it for her honestly I don't know why he wants it back other then to give it to his pregnant gf.

Re: Why do ex's have to be a pain

  • I would keep it. It sounds to me like this may be the only thing that DD will have from her father, considering the pregnant gf and being ticked about child support. I have a pair of earrings from my biological father and I wear them everyday.

  • The gf is pregnant with another guys kid. DD has never even met him since he is in WA still and I'm in FL. I thought about being a smart butt last night and tell him I'll think about it when he starts helping with his daughter.
  • It was a gift he has no legal rights to ask for it back.

    Ignore and move on.

If this is an engagement ring and you broke off the engagement than you should and could be legally compelled to give it back.  IF he broke the engagement you get to keep the ring. IF he gave it to you on a gift giving holiday Christmas, Chanukah, Valentine's Day or your birthday, it is considered a gift and there are no take backsies.

Take backsies is totally the legal term too Stick out tongue

Have I ever told you how awesome I think and know you are???

Keep it.  While I don't know personally, one of my best friends whose parents divorced when she was very young, was excited to get a necklace that her father had given to her mother while they were still together.  She explained that it represented the love that her parents felt for one another that she wasn't exposed to.  I have kept my wedding pictures, my cake topper and some jewelry for my girls to have one day.  After all. they were the best thing that came out of my relationship with their dad.  If my wedding set wasn't worth so much money I would have probably sold it by now... I loved my ring though.  I miss wearing it.  I sometimes where it on my right hand despite it looking nothing like a right-hand diamond ring.

He cheated on me with 2 other woman that said he was engaged to but I was the only one he was living with. The ring is not worth a lot since I hate diamonds I had him get me a aquamarine and he never really proposed to me with it just had me pick it out, he had proposed few months before. That's what my mom said when I told her she thinks he is insane.

I like the way you put it representing the love they once shared at one point for each other great way of putting it.
  • If it's gold I would keep it and sell it.  I have recently sold some gold jewelry and gotten about $800 as a result of it.  That's a nice chunk of change that would help you with the expenses of raising a child.
