Diaper bag to take to hospital?

How many of you took a diaper bag to the hospital? Why or Why not?

I'm debating it and would like to hear your opinions.

Re: Diaper bag to take to hospital?

  • I didn't.  The hospital provided everything I needed and people who came to visit brought clothes.  If you want something special for LO to wear home, bring that.  Otherwise, it's probably not necessary to bring a diaper bag.

Totally up to you either way.

  • No way.   You don't need it.   In my bag I put LO's outfit for coming home.   Hospital provided everything for our stay there.

This is not always true.  Check with your hospital to see what they provide.  We had to provide our own diapers and clothes.

  • I did, and totally didn't need it.  It just took up space in our small room.  I would say don't bother.

  • I brought an empty diaper bag-- we loaded it up with gifts people brought us at the hospital and all of the free stuff they gave us (diapers, wipes, formula samples, thermometer, baby wash/lotion, nipple shield, vaseline for circ care, etc). We filled it up!

  • check with the hospital.  most give you everything you need.  mine supplied diapers, wipes, bath items, hats, shirts, pacifiers, postpartum stuff for mom, books, pamphlets and even a manual breast pump and nipple cream and other breastfeeding stuff.  the hospital also gave us a huge bag of goodies at discharge. i brought DS's going home outfit in my bag and was glad i didn't bring anything else because we had a ton of stuff to bring home and DH had to do all the lugging because I had to stay with the baby until the car was loaded up (hospital policy).

  • The diaper bag you don't need to bring. The hospital had everything we needed. I did leave it in the car, incase we didn't go straight home.

  • I packed our big diaper bag with a few things and then used it to bring home stuff we got from the hospital/visitors. I took coming home outfit (2 - one newborn and one 0-3 size), pacifier (we wanted a certain kind), nursing cover & pads, pair of no-scratch mittens, pretty blanket for pictures, and a swaddling blanket just because I wanted him to have his own instead of the hospital issue.

  • I took my diaper bag but didn't end up using anything out of it.
