Clicky poll: What age for MMR?

Our pedi's office does them as part of the 12 month shots, but (for my own personal reasons, regardless of whether they're rational or not) really wanted MMR done at a standalone appointment without other shots. Add to this that our pedi says if you are breaking up shots, he wants a month between each incidence of vaccinations, and he still hasn't had it because he always has something going on (ear infection, etc.) and just now caught up on 15 mos. shots but still waiting for MMR.

So, am I a HUGE outlier for not having him get it until he's 17 months (assuming he's not sick then)?

No need to answer if you aren't getting it or are on a significantly different schedule than CDC. We are 99% on the CDC schedule except for this one thing and it's not a spacing out per se, just that I want MMR by itself.

We delay the MMR/get it alone, as do we with the varicella. I do this because I feel like babies get so many vaccinations and the live ones are the ones they could react to with fevers ect. I also feel like I want them to be TOTALLY healthy before vaccinating meaning not even a sniffle. The only reason for you that I would feel any sense of urgency is because he is in daycare. Not that you need to rush out tonight to get it for him, but that I would only delay it as long as necessary.

I hate explaining my stance to people because they always toss it back to the "Autism scare" I am a special education teacher, and taught severe and profound. Two of my seven students my first year were victims of vaccine injury, and that was enough for me to change my routine.

Our pedi recommended MMR at 2 years. We had it done at 20 months because we were taking a trip to Europe that had a known Measles outbreak. It was an MMR only vaccination administration at that point.

For S2, unless we are doing a trip where exposure can be high, we will wait to 2 years.

My pedi doesn't even offer it until 15 months. We'll likely do it then unless there is lingering sickness. A had a virus last week and her appt is Monday. The "official" CDC calendar gives you a 12 - 18 month window to do it in. I don't think anyone who does it within that guideline can be considered an outlier. Just my opinion.

Our pedi does it at 18 months, and does the varicella at 15 months. Both alone, they don't do the 2 together. We actually didn't get DS's varicella until 19 months though and got his MMR at 15 since we were going to England and they were having a mumps outbreak in the area we were in.

We will do it at the 2 yr appt (I think).

We did DS's at almost 2.5 at an appt with no other shots. We did DD's at 15.5 mo at an appt with no other shots. DS had a history of getting high fevers with shots and he didn't go to daycare or pre-school at the time and I wanted to wait. DD has never had issues with shots and with her brother in pre-school I didn't want to wait.

What she said. My pedi follows AAP/CDC guidelines BUT lets us "call the shots" (har har) and delay/skip some if that's what we feel more comfortable with. Jack hasn't gotten MMR yet - we'll get around to it - but it will be the only vax he receives at that time and he will be healthy as a little horse when he gets it. Same goes for varicella.

Thanks for the responses ladies, paricularly those who wrote out responses. While the poll indicates that a clear majority goes at 12 months, I appreciate hearing from others who have gone a similar route. Particularly since there are at least a couple that I think MAY also have daycare kids (madhatter, maybe Gypsy or Ava? I just don't know your childcare situations like I know Lucy's or that the others are SAHMs, but that would make me feel even better).

FWIW, we did also do the varicella at a separate appointment. The MMR was scheduled for the following month but then he started getting ear infections again, hence what was supposed to be a 2 month delay has turned into 5). I'm glad our pedi is accommodating - at today's appointment he recommended MMR and flu and when I reminded him that I wanted MMR done on its own, he had no issue and was fine with my waiting a month. So, fingers crossed Toodle isn't sick in a month. I'm likely going to do what I did with today's appointment - wait until he isn't sick and then make an appt ASAP before he has time to get sick. So once we near the requisite one month gap, I'll start gearing up for the appt.

(I seriously am never on here, sadly, free time is so limited nowadays but happy to see your post)

My girls are almost 27 months and the MMR is the ONLY vax they have not gotten. They got the varicella vax at 1 year appt. Honestly, rational or not, that vax makes me lose sleep at night. I have a few friends who have children who had serious side effects from the vax and 2 still suffer. Can't help that it scares the cr@p out of me. For now, they will get it when they turn 3 in August. They will also be starting pre-school then.

Oh, yes. G is most definitely in daycare. He has been ever since he was 4 months old. He's been at 2 separate daycare places and no-one has ever said anything about his delayed vaccination schedule (details of which are here: https://gnluv.wordpress.com/2008/07/24/pin-cushion/). But then again, we live in NorCal and alternative vaccination schedules are very, very common.

Also our pedi will not administer vaccines if G is sick. This has happened a few times, where during his well appointment G would either be sick, or recovering from being sick he'd have us schedule an appointment after he got better.

my doctor always does it alone and after 2. We would have had it done by now, but Ethan has been sick with colds off and on. and timing just prevented it thus far. He should get it soon
