I had an OB appointment today. Everything looked good and babys heartbeat was 147. The practice I go to usually doesn't do the u/s until 22 weeks but I told him we had family coming in for Thanksgiving and if at all possible we would like to know so we can announce it then. He said that was fine but not to get my feelings hurt if they can't tell the sex.
So my question is when did you find out what your LO would be?
Re: U/S scheduled
I was 20 weeks 1 day the day of my big u/s. Unless you are trying to schedule it for like the next two weeks I don't see it being a big issue on whether or not they can tell the sex unless the baby isn't cooperating, and that can happen at any time.
Wow I can't believe it's already about time to find out what you are having. Time sure does fly!
20 weeks. I've heard of people finding out around 17 or 18 weks though, so I guess it is possible. However, I also know someone who found out early and had a scare b/c there were spots or something on the brain. They had to go to B'ham for additional testing and stuff and it ended up just being that it hadn't fully developed in that area or something and that, if they had waited a few more weeks, those spots wouldn't have been there. So, be careful about getting it done too early! GL! It's so exciting!
That's what I was thinking. With you being almost 16 weeks you should be really close to 20 weeks the 18th so unless baby isn't cooperating you should be able to tell the sex.
I actually found out the sex w/ Avery at 15 1/2 weeks so.... I'm not really sure why your dr thinks you have to wait until 22! But... there is the chance you won't be able to tell. When I was pg w/ Avery, we found out by chance at 15 1/2 weeks - but it wasn't 'definite' - at 20 weeks we couldn't tell ANYTHING - her foot was right in between her legs.
How exciting!
I found out this week at 18 weeks and 2 days. It was around the same time with Allie as well.
I would think the only reason you may not find out is if the baby is just not cooperative.
Yeah, I will be 19 weeks and 6 days when I find out. The doctor just had me a little concerned because he said they will not do another u/s for gender if they can't tell what it is. Gregg actually has a game that night so I am going to call and make the appointment for the next Tuesday or Wednesday.
I can't believe it's almost time either!! I am so excited!
they won't do another u/s just to check for gender - that is true. However... for us at our 20 week, not only could we not tell the sex, but they oculnd't get accurate measurements of the heart, lungs and kidneys so they had to redo the anatomy scan.
And - usually they start doing growth U/S around 36 weeks to see how big baby is and measure your fluid levels. You can always have them double check around that time
(which I fully plan on asking them to do next week)
I got mine around 20 weeks. I have a friend that does U/S so I went and saw her at 15 weeks to see if she could tell the sex and she couldn't at that point, but 5 weeks later it was definitely a boy.
Like Sarah said, there's chances that you'll be able to get more u/s because of them not being able to see everything they're looking for at one time. I remember we got an extra one because she we had some issues seeing his cord or something. Plus towards the end they do growth u/s too.
I had an u/s by a friend at 15 weeks, and she could tell then. How exciting! And even not pg, I'm jealous of all of you that get more than one u/s at the doc's office!
With DD, I was due April 22. We had her big u/s the week of Thanksgiving (I can't remember how many weeks I was... 19 maybe?) and she had her legs shut tight! But, they told us that they "thought" it was a girl and gave us a 60% chance.
We went back a week later and found out she was definitely a girl.
