Baby is almost here and we are still undecided. Please weigh in!

For our baby boy...

Tristan or Alexander

Gabriel will be his middle name (it is a family name).

Tristan was our original choice, but then people started making comments about it being a little bit feminine and made us unsure. We have always liked Alexander, but don't have that 100% that's it feeling about it either.

Honest opinions welcome. TIA

I like both choices. I don't think Tristan is feminine at all - and if you want something less common, that would be the way to go. Maybe it depends on which sounds better with your last name?

I like tristan. I don't think it's feminine. I just think of Brad Pitt in Legends of the Fall. There was nothing feminine about him!

I know that a lot of people like the name Tristan for a boy, but I think it is feminine. I like Alexander better- and I think Alex is a good nickname!?

TRISTAN. I don't know a ton of kids, but of those I DO know, there are 5 Alexanders, and one Alejandro. All go by "Alex". It's the most common name around here....

Tristan Gabriel rolls better to me.

I don't think Tristan is a feminine name. I've also taught a few boys named Tristan and they've definitely been very "boyish" boys

Alexander, There is a wave of 15 yr olds right now with the name tristan because of legends of the falls.

I like both, so why don't you just wait til baby arrives, and see which name fits him the best? If you really like Tristan, then who cares what other's say about it?

I agree with PP-wait till you meet baby to decide. That may help you out! But if you really like Tristan, screw other ppl and their comments. It's not like he will be the only boy ever named Tristan.

I personally like them both, but my friend's son is named Tristan and DH and his friends tease her about it all the time. They call him TT because they refuse to call him Tristan. Guess it's a guy thing.

I have a 5 yr old Tristan (boy) so I am partial to the name but, I do remember people saying they thought it was girlish.

People who think Tristan is a girlish name are showing a little bit of a lack of education, in my opinion. Knights of the Round Table aren't usually thought of as feminine: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tristan.

That said, Alexander is one of my favorite names, so I like them both.

I like the name Alexander a lot. They both sound good with Gabriel, Tristan probably a bit better I don't think Tristan sounds feminine, but I do feel like it seems like a name a woman would name a boy, sort of romantic or romance novel-ly. Not trying to criticize because it is a nice name, but just giving my impression. I would never think anything bad of the name if I met an actual person with it.
