I guess I don't know of the Bumpie that people are referring to... I don't know anyone with this name, but I am not a fan. I would think it would be for a girl, though.

Sabel is my maiden name and Everyone thinks I should name a future little girl Sabel but all I think of the the wrestler chick who is married to Brock Lesner..
I LOVE IT! I think its beautiful on a girl but I do get asked "boy or girl" when saying her name.
Thank you to PP's for saying my DD's adorable! It made my day.
It's an old name and it's used around the world. In French it means "Sand", it's an old English word meaning "black", it's a type of animal that fur coats are made from, it's an Island. In Italy it's a NN for Isabel (E-su-BEL shortened to suh-BEL)
It's Easy to spell say and remember without being weird. and there were only 19 babies born with that name in the U.S. the same year my DD was born, so not a lot of kids at school with the same names.
It's not for everyone but I've loved it since I was a kid. My family has warmed up to it well.
EDIT: It's interesting to see what people think of the name. I didn't ask anyone's opinion before naming DD because I knew that was her name, 100%. I never thought I'd have a kid with such an uncommon name, I would have named her Emma if that was the name I loved.
I love the name. I had never heard it until I saw the poster with the cute little girls with the pretty eyes name Sable, but after I saw it I instantly added it to my list! So cute and not a name you hear everyday!
I think of girl, because of the Bumpie who has a daughter named Sable. I agree that her daughter is absolutely adorable, but I honestly don't like the name at all. I think of paintbrushes and of stables, and I just don't think it's very pretty...
Thanks to our resident Bumpie, I now consider Sable the epitomy of what unique actually means. It's a real name, familiar thanks to the word, only charted in the top 1000 for one year. I've only recommended it once because I thought it fit the poster well...I wouldn't recommend it every time though.
And I agree with PP - seeing that beautiful girl almost every day is a great reason to love this name!

Re: WDYT of Sable?
This.
I've grown to like it because of a poster and her gorgeous daughter.
Echoing MJ--It's NMS, but I definitely like it.
Though I wouldn't use it, I love it on a girl. It's a great name.
Makes me think of a paint brush or a fur coat.
But, if I had to choose, girl.

Huh? That, I don't get. Sable is an actual word.
