NIFR: Girl Names

I am volunteering Friday night for an overnight stay at the Children's Museum.  The girls are 4th graders and are "at-risk."  I am actually really looking forward to this.  But we just got a list of the girls and you should see some of these names.  This is a partial list (there are 89 girls in total).

I am actually super excited!  For most of the girls, it will be there only visit to the Museum.  And for it to be a sleep over - well, that's just awesome.  I have been wanted this placement with the Junior League for 3 years now and I finally got it!  And DH is coming at 7:30 to give me my shots on Friday night. I have to get special clearance since they lock the doors at 6 pm.

  • I have a good one..a friend of a friend of mine is a teacher.  She was having throuble pronouncing one girl in classes name...her name was Na-a

When my friend of a friend finally asked how to pronounce her name the girl said her name was "Na-DASH-a"

you say the (-)....this opens up a whole new world of names!

  • Oy vey. I do not understand people sometimes. Especially names with apostrophes in them. Really? And, does #13 have double quotes???? I have no words.
  • #15 is my favorite...now I've got the "Activa" jingle in my head.

  • My grandpa was a teacher and was horrible with names.  He called all boys "George" and all girls "Agnes".  It worked for him.

Good luck with the volunteering, it will be a blast.  I used to work on the museum staff side of overnights and even we had fun.

  • I understand completely...I see thousands of prospective student's names on a daily basis and they are always a good source of entertainment.

The best I've seen today was Cymphoni.

  • Wow!  So are we seeing a link between parents who can't spell and children being at risk?  And to think DH told me he thought the name Eliana sounded made up!

BTW, I think it's wonderful of you to be volunteering for this!

Madelyn that's the name of my Dad's boat!  Except spelled Cynphanie.  It's mine and my sister's name Cynthia and Stephanie.  I never thought someone would name a person that.
