Desperately in need of fashion help.

Or at least a point in the right direction.

I'm going to be speaking in front of 250-300 local business people, law enforcement, doctors and politicians. It's at Manor House in Mason. Dinner event with business dress.

I'd love to wear my standard jeans and Chucks, but that might send the wrong message. Oh, and I'm uber poor so I have to budget wisely.

How should I dress?

Dress? Business Suit? Something more casual? Color or black/brown? Paper bag over my head? Flame retardant suit?

Would one of you fashion savvy ladies help me out?

  • What business professional or high-end business casual pieces do you already own?  What piece(s) in your closet make you feel most confident?  I need photos of your wardrobe/closet, woman!

  • How about black dress pants, a nice shirt and a cardigan.  That way you could also wear it for school.  We can go shopping :)
  • I vote for the flame retardant suit that way you know you are safe should the building catch fire.

    I like this idea.

  • I used a personal shopper at the J.Crew outlet this week and was very impressed.  I can't dress myself well to save my life.
  • Think "banker" wardrobe. If it's black, brown or gray I own a skirt, shirt and blazer in it.

Tons of dress pants: brown, tan, gray, about 5 pairs of black, a cute pair of wine colored pants. Cuffed, uncuffed, wine leg, men's trousers. You name it.

I have tons of sweaters, but no cardigans (can you believe it?) so that might be a good idea.

    Hmmmm...

Was this a Freudian slip-up, or a new fashion trend?

She's just drinking on the job again.  It's what good teachers do.  Trust me.  Stick out tongue

Probably, I haven't had any (wine) in over 3 weeks. Sad

    That should say wide leg.

They've only needed me 1 day this week, which is part of the problem. No $ = no wine. I'm about to start crushing grapes with my feet and making my own.

I'll bring you a bottle, tomorrow, if you promise to be a good sport about the my launching apple fritters in your face game.

What's the catch? Cuz flying apple fritters + wine = a win/win in my book.

Can you tell I'm hard up for a good time. (Go ahead, I gave you that little gem to run with).

    HA!

Why, I have no idea what you could possibly be insinuating... (says the far more sophisticated and mature and serious version of TTT).

  • Banana Republic had some cute cardigans 40% off the sale price (which made them about $22) but the sales person told me it ended last night.  Boo.  But I'm thinking they must still be on sale of some sort.

Are you comfortable wearing color?  I would suggest black or brown, wide-leg, cuffed pants with a purple cardigan and a white button down shirt underneath (if you have it or if not, a more casual white shirt would be fine.)  Purple is my fav color these days so I could be biased :)
