So DS will be born late November/early December in Minnesota. So I'm guessing it will be EXTREMELY cold. We bought a JJ Cole Bundle Me and plan on using it on our way home from the hospital. Do I put it on then put the head positioner on OVER it? I'm guessing so but I don't have an instruction manual for it so I thought I'd ask you ladies.
Re: Question regarding the Bundle Me.....(might be stupid)
You should not use it period. They void all warranties and guarantees of safety on almost all car seats. They are not safe. I live in WI, so I know how cold it gets. Put a blanket over the seat or use this. This is what we got.
ThisI agree with all of this.
If you are one of those people who is overly cautious regarding safety, a friend of mine cut the back piece of the bundle me (the part between the velcro) so there was absolutely nothing affecting the carseat straps.
We got these as well instead of the Bundle Me, because of the safety issues.

If you plan on using the Bundle Me, I highly suggest you cut out the back of it so there is no interference with the car seat straps. And yes, you put the head positioner on top of the Bundle Me.
Here is a good post about the BundleMe with reasons and pictures as to why they are unsafe for infant car seat use.

FYI, JJ Cole just came out with this shower cap type and at $29.99 is much cheaper than the original Bundle Me. I saw them in-store at BRU last week.

Are you sure about that?
In line with JJ Cole's commitment to child safety, the Original Bundle Me has been tested to FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard) 213 requirements. Tests performed on infant car seats with the JJ Cole Original Bundle Me installed found that the car seats complied with the Restraint System Integrity and Occupant Excursion portions of the FMVSS 213 requirements.

That might have been the case in the past, but doesn't seem to be accurate anymore.
Ah great. Thanks for all the tips! I'll look into the other cover as well. I know the back piece you are referring to so I'll take a look into removing it and working around that.
Thanks again ladies!
Of course JJ Cole claims that the product is safe - but check with the manufacturer of your car seat. Some have approved the Bundle Me for use (or had in the past), but most have not.
Did you bother to read your car seat manual? It states that using ANY accessory with your car seat is not recommended and could put your child in potential danger.

This. I called Chicco directly since there is so much conflicting info on here and the internet. Of course JJ Cole says they are safe, they want you to buy them. Maybe they are. But Chicco says do NOT use them with their car seats or they aren't liable.

Walmart sells something similar online for $15.00.

I figure if this product was so unsafe, it would have been recalled a long time ago. I feel comfortable that it does not affect the integrity of the straps. You have your opinions, I have mine. I figure the probability that I get in an accident, the carseat doesn't work and I need to sue Graco is pretty minimal.
It is safe when used properly, which is not in a car. When used in a car seat/stroller for walks, it's perfectly safe. There is so much proof that they're unsafe in cars, and when there are safe alternatives out there, I guess I just don't see the point of taking a stupid risk with my child's life. To each their own I guess...
I have never seen any "proof" that the straps are negatively affected in an accident with the bundle me. It's easy enough if you have the product to use it in such a way that it does not affect the carseat straps in any way, shape or form. I don't see the risk to my child's life at all, personally. Sometimes I think people just go way overboard and take pictures from babycenter as proof that something is unsafe. It's silly to me, really. I think if there were evidence that a crash occurred and the bundle me directly affected the carseat's safety, it would be common knowledge.
The fact that you "aren't concerned" doesn't actually make it safe. Just FYI.

This.
@ OP: I don't care what anyone does. I'm just providing the info I found and why I chose not to use one. This is like using bumpers. Some people are comfortable with the risks, others are not. You have to make a decision based on what you think is best
I like the way this tech puts it.c&p from link
" They could throw it against the wall and call it crash tested. Did they perform an actual crash test? Maybe. But there are no regulations on how it should affect car seats, and there is no possible weay it could "meet 213" because 213 does not apply to the product in any way.
That's like saying putting a magnent on your fridge door doesn't violate the refrigerant regulation code".

Im sorry but when they sell safer products why use on thats not safe to use and may void your warrenty if your in a crash?
Here are tons that are ok to use in car seats and car seat manufactures are ok with you using them.
This is the one we plan on getting.

This one is by j j cole same thing as the bundle me but does not have the backing and is safer.

Walmart, Target and babies r us also sell them.
I agree with this.
Actually Chicco has a statement on their website stating that anything added to the car seat voids the warranty. They ask parents to dress their babies in warm clothes and use blankets.
The thing is that if Graco explicitly says that using additinal items in the car seat voids their warranty, you won't be able to sue them.
Graco does state it in their manuals not to add anything to their car seats. So they can not be sued if your child is hurt and it is the car seats fault.
c&p right from a manual of the sungride. It is in every manual

Dude, have DH heat up the car ahead of time. Put a blanket over the kid's lap. Problem solved. You do have heat in the car, no?
And PS it's not just about not being able to sue. It's about keeping your kid alive and not maimed in an accident.
I hesitate to add to the pile on, but actually it sort of is common knowledge that the bundle me's are not safe. Please, please for the safety of your child return it and get one of the covers that goes around the seat.

I'm not trying to tell anyone what's safe. Just telling her what I do and what I'm concerned (or not) about. But thanks for the info - I thought I knew everything, I guess you sure told me!
Thanks for your concern, but from my research I disagree.
Do you put the baby in a snow suit or winter coat too, while using a shower cap cover? I have read that snow suits and heavy coats are not supposed to be used in the car seat, but how do you keep baby warm in just a cover that goes over the carseat?Or just put a blanket over the baby, under the cover, and that should be warm enough? I have two snowsuits but I am worried I cannot use them in the car seat now?
Forgive me, I am just trying to make sure baby is warm enough in the car seat.
Snow suits are not safe in car seats. Put your baby in layers, and use a couple blankets under the cover. And the cover is really warm!
