A question about eating at restaurants

Aubrey only wants to feed herself now.  So since restaurant high chairs don't have trays most of the time, and I can't give her a plate yet since she is still more interested in playing with the plate than eating food off of it, I've been wondering what to do.

I usually take a wipe and wipe the spot down that we are going to put her food.  But then someone told me about disposable place mats.  I have been meaning to check them out when I go to the store but it seems like I always forget when I am there.  Do any of y'all use these, or what do you do?

  • We have the Tiny Diner and it works really well - I like the little scoop part that hangs just off the table.  It keeps a lot of food out of her lap and off the floor.

Okay this just looks genius.  I'll have to check this one out.  I've been feeling so bad about food being all over the floor after she eats that I have been tipping really well.  Thanks!

  • We have always used the disposable mats, and LOVE them!  I always get them at BRU or BuyBuyBaby.

These are like the ones we use.  They have all kinds with Baby Einstein on them, Elmo, etc.

  • My friends have used the disposable ones and sometimes the LO can pull it off of the table (they stick to them) and then it defeats the purpose.  The one like kkh uses for Sarah looks awesome!!!  I would have just tried the disposable ones b/f I saw that!!!
  • I love the disposable place mats - I still use them.

They have them at Target and BRU.

  • I've also seen them at Publix.  We used to use them all time but Caroline was more interested in pulling them off the table instead of eating on them.  Luckily now, she'll eat from a plate.

I want that! James has started feeding himself and only about 25% ends up in his mouth.

  • I used a Tiny Diner with Caleb for a while, but I got tired of washing it so I ended up using the disposable placemats instead.  Loved those things!  BTW, Chick-Fil-A has them for people to use.  They keep a stack of them next to the straws/napkins and stuff.  Just another reason to love CFA!
  • Oh we still end up with food in the floor (and in her lap, her hair, etc) but the scoop part of the placemat does help.  And when she starts trying to yank it off the table (it has about 8 suction cups) we roll it up and she's done eating.  But we're also having issues with her throwing food from her high chair at home, so I think it's a personal (or age appropriate maybe) thing.

We never really had a problem with her pulling themoff.  Maybe it ishe brand we get because they are REALLY sticky and we have to pull them hard to get them off the table.  Also, we kind of fold the bottom part of the mat (closest to her) underneath the edge of the table so she doesn't really have a corner to mess with either.

I bought the tiny diner this afternoon.  Can't wait to try it out. I also bought some disposables to keep in the car just in case I accidentally forget to bring the tiny diner.

Aubrey throws food from her high chair at home too.  I have been taking it as a sign of her being finished, since she only does it at the end of the meal.  So we've just started calling dinner over when she throws the first piece.
