Any tips for Disney?

We are taking Matthew to Magic Kingdom this weekend for the first time!  I have a few silly questions.

Do people actually steal strollers?  Should I get a lock?

Do I really need my diaper bag?  Can I just load the bottom of the stroller   with diapers, his sippy cup and snacks?

Should I haul my DSLR around or just my point and shoot?

If you girls have any other tips for traveling with a toddler, let me know!

Re: Any tips for Disney?

  • My stroller has been to Disney for 3 trips. Never had an issue & I do own a $500 stroller. It's always where I leave it. We usually pack a bookbag with all our stuff. We pack light & a small jansport holds all our stuff & nadia's. You can leave anything in the bottom of your stroller that you wouldn't worry about getting lost/stolen. I'd take the point & shoot to make life easier. Take it slow & have fun!!! We are going back nov 10 & I can't wait!!

  • I don't think stroller stealing is an issue there. I used a backpack and stuck it in the basket of the stroller or just broughtit on the ride with me. You can def pack as much snacks and cups as you want in your bag or stroller!  I think a lightweight camera you can stick in your pocket would be easiest.

  • Never had a problem with my stroller being stolen.  I have a big"ish" purse so I put stuff in there.  I usually bring a sippy cup and just one or two snacks because I always end up getting her the not-so-healthy snacks while we're there, I'm a sucker I know! I have a diaper thing that holds a few diapers and wipes and stick that in the bottom of the stroller.  I do bring my DSLR, it's worth carrying it around to me for the pics that I get.

Tip - there is a "baby and toddler" room.  It's behind the crystal palace restaurant.  You can ask for a more exact location.  But it's AWESOME!!! They sell things like diapers, wipes, baby food, formula, etc.  They have nice clean changing tables and another room with high chairs and little tables and chairs.  They have a TV where they play Disney movies and paper and crayons.  In case you need a break or Matthew needs a break, go hang out there for a little bit.

  • That's exactly what we did - we did bring the diaper bag but packed light. We had no issues leaving the stroller. Don't forget sunscreen and a hat for the little one. ;) Have a great time!

Granted, I've never been to Disney w/ my own children, but I'm w/ Leanna on this one... bring the DSLR!  I see you being a picture lover like I am and IMO it is worth the haul.  Maybe only bring the camera w/ the smaller lens... prob no need to bring the larger lens.  It is M's first time in Disney, you have to capture it all!

  • I don't bring my zoom lens.  There are times I wish I had it, but that is just too much to lug around.

  • I've never had a problem with my stroller, trust me, there are more expensive strollers there lol. It is Maclaren central though so I would just put something on it so it'll be easier to find it.

I can't remember the last time I used a diaper bag, but I have a small backpack that I use and I take that everywhere. You could always just use the bottom of your stroller though I guess, no big deal.

I would take both cameras for his first time.

One tip I will give you, because I would hate for anyone else to go through this, is to take your own sheets (or at least sheets for Matthew).

I think you pretty much know what to expect already, traveling with them is like going on a long road trip to target. So I would worry more about car entertainment than anything.  And obviously lots of water, etc.

  • We took Gabs for her 2nd birthday. Definitely bring your own stroller. We never had a problem with anything going missing, and every attraction has designated stroller parking.

We brought a little canvas bag with diapers and snacks, plus a little insulated lunch box with frozen water bottles (we went in July, so it was HOT, but from what my sister tells me, it's nice up there now).

I'd bring the point & shoot, so you can snap pictures while you're riding things together.

Also, rather than spending a million dollars to eat in the park every day, we left around lunch time and went back to our hotel for lunch & a nap. That saved us sooooo much money (although we did splurge & have dinner in the park one night before the fireworks).

  • We have never had a prob with the stroller. We did once park in a bad area and they moved it but it was not a big deal. My biggest tip is bringing plastic bags with you. We keep anything pricey in a backpack with us, but under the stroller (when Aa was smaller) we kept diapers, wipes, change of clothes, snacks, ponchos, and a few small toys. When you have to get on the tram or train for Magic Kingdom and you have to fold the stroller every time without fail we would be dropping things out of the basket. So now we place that stuff in bags and I carry that and they baby and Josh carries the stroller and the backpack and camera. Good luck it is too much fun seeing it through your child's eyes.
