NBR: birthday cake frosting

When you buy a birthday cake from a bakery, which do you prefer, butter cream or whipped cream frosting?  I guess a clicky poll would be best, but I don't know how and am all ornery.  DH and I always have this same debate and I just came from the bakery where I ordered DS's cake, got what DH wanted, and now I am pouting.

Re: NBR: birthday cake frosting

  • I HATE cake. Really, it is true. The only cake I do eat has a butter cream frosting. But I rarely eat it

  • oh butter cream for sure! YUM! Now I want cake....
  • It doesn't matter to me. I love all frosting. I could eat it by the tub!!!
  • I like both and it all depends on what I'm in the mood for. =)

This for sure. I'm a hobby baker, and some of the recipes for "buttercream" make me throw up in my mouth a little. 4 cups of shortening? Seriously? (Although why I feel like "4 cups of BUTTER" is any better is probably a little weird. Don't judge me! Indifferent)

  • I love whipped cream frosting on a cake : )
  • See?  I am totally right!  He made me order whipped cream frosting.  So boring and gross with yellow cake & choc pudding filling.  So nms, not sweet enough for me.  Last year I got butter cream and he gave me a really hard time about it.  I bet if I show him this thread he still won't change his mind.  So stubborn!

It is!  There's something nasty about a product that can sit in your pantry for years and not change.  Plus, butter tastes soooo much better.

And it seems to leave a yucky film on the roof of your mouth. Blech.

I made french toast cupcakes on Monday (cinnamon cake with maple buttercream) and put little tiny pats of butter on top for decoration and DH was like, WTH? You put straight butter on top of these?! And I was like, Hell yes I did. You put butter on french toast, right?! And they. were. delicious.
