What are your days usually like?
For example, when do you or LO get up in the AM, do you hold LO most of the day, does LO take naps in the swing/bouncey seat/bassinet (approx how long are naps), how much "free time" would you say you have?
DS is 2w 1d and I am still learning about mommyhood and my LO. I feel slightly frustrated in that my days seem so short......
LO usually wakes up around 7:30 to 8:30. A few times we've slept in til 9 or 9:30 or DH holds him during the 9:00 hour while I take a shower. But a lot of times it seems like I don't make it downstairs until about 10 am or 10:30. Sometimes this is b/c I'm still learning LO's cues and sometimes end up feeding him 2-3x's in a couple hour stretch (e.g. 7:30 to 9:30), depending on how fussy/"mouthy" he is.
Then DH and I will put LO in the swing for a little while so we can eat breakfast (but it's really brunch - around 10 to 11 am). LO will sometimes be wide-eyed and sometimes will fall asleep for a good nap.
A few times lately, he gets fussy so I end up feeding him about once every hour (at night its every 1.5 to 2.5 hrs). I feel like the only way DH and I can get anything done, so that I feel like I'm not on the sofa or rocker with LO all day, is to put him in the swing,.....but I feel guilty doing so. Because this is a time that LO and I need to bond and this time is so important.
Then in the afternoons by about 1 or 2 pm, he hasn't taken a true nap. Baby wearing in my baby tank top helps. I intend to buy or make a baby wrap in the next week, so that I can hold and bond with LO while resting or getting things done.
I try to start the nightly bedtime routine by about 7:30 or 8:00. And when LO goes down, I do too within about 30 minutes. So by the time I'm out of the bedroom in the morning until I go to bed, I have maybe a 10 hour day. It has just been a big adjustment when prior to maternity leave days seemed long with going to work, coming home and cooking dinner and spending time with DH.
Re: What is your day like? (little long)
DS tends to wake up when DH gets up for work at 5am. He gets changed and fed then, and will go back to sleep until as late as 9am. He usually eats about every 3-4 hours during the day, and will have a couple periods of 'awake time' during the day for about 30 min-1 hour but otherwise naps between feedings all day. We do activities like tummy time, walks, and reading books when he's awake. He will nap anywhere - his PnP, his crib, and sometimes his swing. We usually get changed into pajamas and go to bed around 10pm and he's usually up twice in the middle of the night around 12 and 2am. Not sure why he can go 3-4 hours between feedings during the day but has to be up every 2 hours at night, hope we can move to being up only once during the night soon.
There's very little time to do anything besides tend to LO all day. But I do end up accomplishing things. This #2 for me so I've learned to schedule a bit better. Everything I do is in 5-10 minute intervals usually. Wash one bottle here, cut up veggies for dinner there, throw in a load, make bottles, etc. DD lets me put her down a couple minutes so I can do these things.
It wasn't until this week that she started having longer awake hours and longer naps. It gets better and more predictable.
DH and I don't talk much, or like we used to. But we know that it's temporary. We know how precious these first months are and know we can catch up on "us" later. And IMO, sleep seems so much more appealing.
