Re: Safe Laxatives? Lost My List

  • My OB recommends Metamucil first, then a stool softener if that doesn't work.  I have senna (Senokot) which is what I was given in the hopsital after I had DS (which is safe because I was BF'ing).

  • I tried to make a glass of metamucil the last few mornings but I have puked it up every time. :(

I think its the taste. Im going to get some Tang to mix in with it. Im desperate.

  • Not sure on the laxative/stool softener front, I would call your OB to get their exact instructions if you've lost them.

Natural & safe things that can help: Activia yogurt, anything with a lot of fiber in it and a single cup of coffee in the AM.

  • Colace is ok to take I just asked the Doc on Monday! They said you can take it the entire pregnancy and to not let yourself go for more than a day or two before adressing it.

  • Stool softeners, not laxatives. Docusate sodium is safe.

  • My OB recommends Miralax.  It's a tasteless colorless powder dissolved into any drink.

  • Prunes and prune juice work are a good natural alternative if you're interested.
