North Dakota Babies

how soon is too soon to take baby out?

Probably a dumb question...DH and I have some erands to run today. Noah is 6 days old - should one of us stay in the car with him or is it ok to bring him into stores with us?

Re: how soon is too soon to take baby out?

  • I was one of those crazy mom's who did not take her out other than walks around the neighborhood or to a family members house until she got her 2 month shots...

  • Seems like I had Caroline out pretty early, but I don't remember how early.  I would definitely try to keep him out of crowded places though.
  • i cannot answer your question, but how did I miss that you had your LO!  I feel like a terrible nestie/bumpie!  Congrats on your little bumdle of joy =)

  • We were took K out when she was really little.  She just kept her in her little carseat and put her in the travel stroller and covered her with the hood things.  No one bothered us or her to see her.

I think it is OK as long as you keep her covered and don't let anyone touch her.

    EEKK!  Congrats Momma!

  • I agree with pp. As long as you keep him in his car seat and covered up, you will be fine. My sister's little boy is 3 weeks old and she had him out within the first week. Have fun and I'm impressed that you are up and willing to get out of the house already. I was down for the count for atleast a week! Congrats mama!
  • We had Z out the first week.  I agree with PPs: keep him in the seat or covered up.

This is also what we did and it worked really well.   We also tended to go to Target and Babies R Us in the middle of the day and that helped also because there were fewer people at the store.

    Congrats Mom & Dad!

Me too!!!  Congrats and welcome to the world Noah.  As for your question...a week.  I was getting cabin fever.  But like PP said, keep him covered and people will leave you alone.

I only had one women ask to see him and when I hesitated she promised not to touch him or be one of "those" people so I did move the blanket for her.  But part of me just wanted to show him off b/c of all the proud happy mama hormones.

  • we took nia out to the grocery store at the 5 day mark in her moby wrap. granted, it was summer so if it were now with flu season upon us i may have waited a bit but honestly, it felt so good to be out and about!
