Babies: 3 - 6 Months

LO waking up constantly trying to roll over

Little back ground on this one... We did the Ferber method with great results right after the he hit 4 months with Dr blessing. (sleep has been awful since the get go) A few nights after we started he went down at 7, and slept until 2am. Awesome.

However, we've hit a new rolling over milestone. Now the second we lay him down in his crib on his back, he immediately rolls onto his belly. I'm ok with him sleeping like this because his head control is fine. However, he's just recently started screaming while trying to roll back onto his belly. His arms are splayed out to the side, so it really looks like he's going to injure his shoulder while pushing in the opposite direction with his legs. If we help him roll over, he immediately rolls onto his belly again.

Obviously this is making nap time complete torture. If we roll him, he rolls back. If we just rub his back while keeping him on his belly, he just screams til he's exhausted and falls asleep.

Has anyone had experience with this? Pointers? Suggestions? Anything?

Re: LO waking up constantly trying to roll over

  • The first few nights when DD learned to roll back to belly were aweful. It took about 5 days and now she sleeps wonderfully on her belly. When she wakes up she just whines on her stomach. Sometimes she goes back to sleep and sometimes I have to nurse her back to sleep. It will pass.

    same.

  • We just started going through this this week.  It's caused him to wake up crying a lot more at night than he was before.  I finally had to let him cry for a few minutes last night to get him to go back to sleep on his stomach because he refused to stay on his back.  Breaks my heart to hear him cry but I'm at a loss for what else to do.
