Mini roadtrip recommendations needed

Hi Ladies. DH and I would like to go away for a weekend in November, but we can't think of anywhere to go. We've been to Traverse City, Grand Haven, and Chicago. Do you have any suggestions on a nice little getaway? We were thinking Thanksgiving weekend, and it will just be DH and I (I am lucky that I get two Thanksgivings since my family is in Canada. So it won't matter for us to miss one of them) If you have any suggestions on areas, hotels, things to do, or even restaurants. I appreciate any ideas you can throw at me.

  • Do you guys like casino's? Detroit has ones you can stay in overnight, and the new casino is Battle Creek has a hotel next door to it.  It's not a nice hotel, but it's cheap.

  • No to the Casino. We don't gamble. When we went to Traverse City, they gave us each $15 in free play at their Turtle Casino, and we were literally there for 30 minutes, then left.

  • What about Hocking Hills Ohio?  We rented a cabin there two times and went hiking.  Many have hot tubs too.  Another option - Cincinnati.  THere are a lot of fun things to do on the Kentucky side of the river (right over the border) in Newport on the Levy.  There are also lots of fun shops/restaurants in Mt Adams up on the hillside on the Ohio side of the river.

  • Is 6 hours too far to travel?  Brown County, Indiana is a lovely place to go.  Lots to do and see.  I went a numbers of years ago over Thanksgiving weekend and had a great time.  Stayed at a B&B that served a turkey dinner, hiked in the beautiful state park nearby, caroused the shops and second-hand stores, etc.

Keep in mind that hotels in some MI areas over Thanksgiving weekend will be hopping with hunters, as that is the tail end of the November firearms season.

  • How about Cleveland? There's the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame Museum AND you can see the real house from the movie The Christmas Story! If you are a foodie, Michael Symon has two restaurants there, I think. One I know if is quite good. Lola. :)

  • I love Niagra Falls.  Here is a great package

Not sure where your family is but perhaps this works with your Canada Thanksgiving.

Also Garland has a nice weekend package if this sort of thing interests you.
