Postpartum Doula Experiences

At a recent grand opening celebration of a new yoga studio I was entered into a drawing to win free services for a Postpartum Doula.  I was excited to win, but after doing some reading, not really sure what she does other than support me.  I'm all for that, but not would love to hear from someone who had a postpartum doula help them out and what they thought of the services.

  • Ooh, I'd love to win that!  Like you said, it's somebody to support mom so she can be with the baby.  She can help personally, around the house, etc., even with breastfeeding.  As long as it's somebody I had a chance to meet and feel comfortable with before the birth, how great would it be to have somebody in my home a few hours a day!?!  In any case, I've totally considered it throughout this pg, but I just can't justify the cost.  Winning it would be fantastic though, at least for us!  Good luck!

  • I just talked with her this morning and she said she would definitely support me in anyway possible, but what's she's found with moms with 2+ kids is that helping with the other sibling (playing with them, feeding them, etc) is what she would recommend she focus on so I can bond with the baby.  Wow - that made it so real!  Gheez - I've never won anything in my life more than a nice pen from the company gift store!

  • That's awesome!  Her job really is to so whatever makes your life with baby easier, and taking care of older children would certainly be #1 on my list too.  And I know if I end up having to pump again it would be so helpful to have somebody clean the pump parts, etc.  (I am going to do everything I can to avoid that again, but it would have been SO helpful 3 years ago!)  Watching the baby so I could shower, etc. -- heaven.

Will you have a set number of hours with her?  How will that work?

    I'm so envious! ;)  ENJOY!!! :)
