rice cereal in the bottle

We're putting rice cereal in DS bottle as per ped. We're using a flo 2 nipple with born free bottles and it would not go through. any suggestions or experiences with getting a bigger nipple for cereal ? thx!

Re: rice cereal in the bottle

  • I use Dr. B's but the best thing I've found is to make my own Y-cut nipple.  The Y cut Dr. B ones were way to fast for DD and she ended up wearing most of it.  I took a level 1 nipple and a tiny pair of cuticle scissors and made two tiny cuts to make a y shape.  This has worked really well for us so far.

  • Born Free makes a variable flow nipple with 3 stages that is great for thicker formula.  I wasn't able to find it in stores, but I ordered them online from BRU.  HTH!

  • We use Bron Free bottles with LO's thickened formula. We tried the variable flow and it was too fast but the Level 3 nipples were perfect.

  • When DD was getting cereal in her bottles, we were using Dr. Browns. I took a fork and stuck one prong in the hole to make it wider. It worked just fine for us.

This is what I did, and it's great. DS still gets a rice cereal bottle at night. Although, they don't recommended cutting the nipples....
