Cloth Diapering

cloth diapering gods are conspiring against me

and I answer to a higher authority, my MIL.  She will only keep cloth diapering if I can get rid of this persistant rash my baby has.

For the record, I think it's because he is pooping 3 times a day and it is mushy poop.  He switched to solids right around the time we switched to Cds full time.

I tried biodegradable liners and mesh liners.  I'm going to make fleece liners tonight the way Nikki recommended. California baby has not even touched the rash.

Any other ideas?

I was using rockin' green and yesterday I had H wash them all in Charlie's soap.  So hopefully that is it.

  • We are dealing with the same thing. I am positive its from her poop.  It will clear up after a couple of changes then when she poops its right back and terrible.  CA Baby makes it worse. I have some Arbonne I found in her closet on it now because last night after a poop it looked so bad.  The Arbonne cleared it up overnight. Iys not CD safe so I am using fleece liners. I ordered some CJ's BUTTer but its not in yet. I really want to give it a try.  I will let you know how that works,

I really think CA baby is making it worse too.  I hate it.  Let me know about CJ's.

  • Aveeno

I read somewhere that it's the safest non-CD safe rash cream. It usually clears up DD's rash within a day.

And switching to another type of solid may help as well.

GL! The fleece liners should help, and I use them when I use Aveeno so the cream doesn't get on her CD.

  • We are in the same boat here also.  DD had a virus a few weeks ago that started the rash.  I got rid of it at the end of last week but she had a bunch off poops in a row over the weekend when we went back to her original diet and it came back.  So, she has been in disposables all week with heavy duty cream.  The kicker- daycare asked me today if I thought that the cloth was causing the rash keeping moisture against her skin--- um no, we use BGs and it wicks away the moisture, it is her poops..
  • I don't think I have the same problem as you guys, but I LOVE CJ's BUTTer!  It works wonders on my baby's eczema, all over her body and her diaper area.  We starting getting a red hot bum at about 2-3 mos.  My pedi (who also CDs) recommended we try a different detergent b/c the redness was the worst in her diaper area, so we switched from RnG to Country Save, and baby's bum is became buttery soft. I think pinstripes warns that Charlies can cause rashes?

Thanks! I can get that at lunch.

That's terrible about charlie's causing rashes.  I'm going to try bumgenius because I still have some of that detergent at home.

If I send him even one day in disposables, she will never go back.  If I thought for one second the cloth diapers were giving him a rash I would switch but I know it's not the diapers.

  • I will give a suggestion of Allen's Detergent if the others don't work. It is very mild and we really liked it.

They don't have a choice at daycare but I agree, if I thought it was the CDs she would be out of them in an instant.  One other cause might be detergent I was using RNG but just started using the EFF detergent, hopefully that will help once I figure out the right amount...

  • Bum Bum Balm is great! We haven't had any super bad rashes but whenever her bum is a bit red or irritated (from a poop), I put a little on and the next change her bum looks perfect again.

This exactly. I even sit the tin on top of the wipes warmer and it melts down a little and makes it even more easy to spread.

It should be, I got mine at Target.

  • Have you tried bleaching your diapers? If it's a yeast rash, then your diapers will need to be bleached to get out all the yeast.

  • we have been dealing with a horrible rash too, and my DD is allergic to 'sposies so we have to use cloth. I think it is from her teething poops, the smell so acidy and are super mushy, so we let her go with out a diaper frequently, and make sure her bum is really dry (like wait 10 or so mins when changing her) before putting on CB and so far it has been working, I really want to try some CJ's BUTTer as well as maybe grandma el's to see what might work quicker though.
