Potty Training

Okay to switch to underwear if not really pooping on potty?

DS pooped on the potty by accident for my MIL yesterday.  He has been aware of when he was pooping, but has refused to go on the potty.  I've been wondering if people make the leap to underwear before their kids poop on the potty.  Each time I put him on the potty, he pees.  He's also been talking about his big boy underwear a lot more.  We tried it one day about a month or so ago and it worked well for a little bit, but then he didn't want to stop playing to go pee and had a few accidents.  I feel like he's so close to being ready, but I'm not sure if he's ready enough.  I don't want to miss a window opportunity since he's interested.

  • I went cold turkey with the underwear. Olivia had the pee down way before the poop. She now regressed with pooping on the potty but continues to pee like a pro and i am keeping her in the underwear. It suck, we gotta wash them but i just don't wanna go backwards. If your son is close to being ready I say go with it and follow his lead. Olivia had tons of accidents with pee too and they slowly became less and less. It really tests patience haha

  • Yeah, we pretty much went cold turkey with the undies as well - except when out, when he requested pull ups after a week, so we went with it. It took him over a month to poo on the potty, possibly more. But for me, after using CDs, it wasn't an issue - dirty washing is dirty washing, you know?
