boys, undies, and touching!?

DS is doing great if he is bare-bottomed, except that he feels the need to constantly touch himself and also his toys down there.  I don't know if I should keep trying to use underwear, or discipline him for touching himself?  I know it's normal, I just don't know what to do about it. Advice, please?

    Yeah, DS does this as well. As far as I can tell, it's totally normal, just hard for mum's to deal with. DS will sit on teh potty seat for 20 min now, watching telly, and playing with himself. It looks painful when he does as well, to be honest. I try to ignore it (like nose picking and other less savoury habits!), unless I think it's interfering with him actually peeing/pooping, or if it's getting a bit too much nad then try to tel him that it's not something we do all the time, that he can do it on his own, etc. (I'm working on the concept of 'private' but it's not happening yet!)

    My concern is germs- I try to tell him that it's dirty, but of course he doesn't understand that concept yet.

    Yeah, I don't worry about that too much. Maybe I should? Embarrassed (It's not nice obviously, but I figure he won't understand that, that it's not a patch on other things he's done/touched, and we just focus on washing hands before eating...)

    Technically urine is sterile so there aren't many germs that are of huge concern. That being said, I still don't want pee on my hands or his.  I usually ask him if he has to go pee when he's playing with it.  If he says no then I gently remind him that he only should touch his penis when he's going potty so he should either go potty or stop playing with it.

    Thanks.  The update on us is that we did the "3 day" method for like 6 days whenever we could, and he has been in underwear for 2 days now. :-D  Except he won't poop on the potty. :-(
