Wind "in the ears"?

It is now October in Texas, which means the temperature has now dropped below 80 ever day. I dress my son, Dominic, in pants and socks now instead of just the onesie. My mother insists I put a hat on him because otherwise the wind will get "in his ears" and will give him an ear infection. Is there any correlation between these two ?

Re: Wind "in the ears"?

  • I've never heard of that in my life.  I put hats on my kids when its cold enough outside to make their ears cold or uncomfortable, but its not usually to prevent an ear infection - its to keep their body heat in and keep them warm.  Even though its cooler, its still pretty warm, especially in the afternoons - I'd think he'd get too hot if he had a hat covering his ears.

  • My mom freaks out about this too. I don't believe there is any correlation. Just like going out with wet hair doesn't cause a cold.

  • Umm, no.  And temperatures have been far from arctic lately.

  • If you could get an ear infection by wind in your ears, they wouldn't put tubes in. I wouldn't worry about the hat.
