Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Leave blanket in the crib WWYD?

I'm such a worry wart.  dd's pj's don't seem warm enough tonight.  I know i'm a little chilly and want a blanket so i'd imagine she'd be a little chilly.  I'm not going to wake her up and put more layers on.  I put a blanket in there and i've already had to cover her back up one time.  She moves around a lot.

Should I just take the darn thing out so I don't worry or am I being silly and she'll be fine with it?  Like I said she is fully mobile and moves around so if the blanket were causing a problem she'd just move right?

I'm just so nervous to start using a blanket.  She's almost 10 months.

Re: Leave blanket in the crib WWYD?

  • Our son is 7 months old and rolls completely over every which way, and we have been using a receiving blanket since he was able to do so.  He's just fine.  I feel like if I'm chilly at night, he must be too!!  And I can't turn our heat up any higher!

  • my dd is not too mobile yet, but I put her in pjs, then sleep sack, then knitted blanket, then another warmer blanket that just covers her lower half.  she is still in my room, though so I check on her really often.  I always feel like she's not dressed warm enough too.
  • What are you afraid will happen at 10 months?

I've had a blanket in there from day 1. I'm a shitty mother.

  • Do you have any knitted, afghan style blankets that have a lot of holes?  I use one like that for naps because it's breathable.  May not be as warm but it's a blanket.

  • We've tried- DS just kicks it off himself during his 134 nighlty laps around the crib...
  • I'm afraid she's going to roll her self up in her blanket and get stuck with her head coverd...

I covered her with a blanket at the beginning before she rolled and didn't worry but for some reason I've been too worried to do it since.  My irrational thoughts are getting worse now that i'm pg again.

  • If she's moving around so much it probably won't even stay on her to keep her warm! I would take it out.  I'm a worry wart too.  I would by a sleep sac, or bundle her in a onesie and super warm jammies if I were you.

  • I do have some of those sleep sack things and footed pj's but I didn't put one on her tonight.  She's just in long sleeve top and pants pj's with socks and a onsie underneath..

Okay she moved again and the blanket is now off for the 3rd time.  I'm just taking it out.  She keeps moving around...

and lol at the laps at night.  Each time I check the video monitor she's curled up in a different corner :)

  • I would be too worried to leave it in.  I like sleep sacks.  DS's hands are often cold in the morning, but the pedi said that's fine.  I know what you mean about feeling bad though - I love being cozy under covers at night!
  • DS had his last winter, but he couldn't really move. We started using it again about a month ago. When he wakes up its either on the floor or smashed in the corner of the crib. When we check on him he is covered or snuggled on top of it. Very cute and no harm.

  • We used a handmade blanket with holes too.  I think it has to be better than a solid made one.  On the other hand, DS sleeps the best after midnight when he gets under all the sheets with us in our bed.
  • We just started giving DD one, not a big deal to me, she's walking for goodness sakes. Even if she was only crawling, I would give her one, and she has learned in just a few days how to cover herself up, so I know it's helping keep her warm. I didn't want to use a sleep sack b/c she IS mobile, in the mornings she will play, crawl around, stand up...I don't want her to not be able to do those things, she would probably wake up screaming!
  • Yeah the sleep sacks aren't going to work good anymore b/c she likes to move around and stand up when she wakes up and the one time we put her in one a few weeks ago she got ticked off.

I ended up leaving the blanket in there.  It was nowhere near her when she woke up.  I hope she catches onto covering herself up soon.
