Success after IF

Caroline has another double ear infection!!

My child just didn't get the memo about breastfed babies having fewer ear infections...I can't remember how many ear infections she's had at this point, but I can tell you this...its too damned many.  Poor baby...

I took her in because of a snotty/runny nose for 4 days, and then last night she started coughing a little.  She hasn't indicated AT ALL that her ears hurt...but lo and behold, a double ear infection.

I had a ton of ear infections when I was little, and ended up with tubes in both ears, and then two grafts to my ear drum later on...I do NOT want that for my child!

This sucks.

Re: Caroline has another double ear infection!!

  • my dh had really bad ears too, burst ear drum and the works.  We got lucky with dd, she only had 2 right before her first birthday and only one the winter after that.

    I'm nervous about ds

    hope C feels better soon!

  • I'm sorry, hon. Some kids just get a lot of ear infections, breastfed or not. I hope she doesn't need tubes, but it might be worthwhile to investigate. Everyone I know says once their kids get the tubes they rarely get sick.
  • poor little punkin!
  • That sucks:(

I actually had many problems with ear infections as a kid and had tubes. I asked our pedi about it and she said that our LOs will have a higher probability of ear problems b/c of my history. Maybe something to talk to your pedi about?

  • Poor Caroline. I had lots of ear infections as well as tubes 5 times. I had major infections until the age of 26 when I fineally had ear drum reconstructive surgery.  Mine is from a malfunctioning eustation tube. It is genetic so we keep a close eye on Hayden for it. Thankfully no ear infections yet for us. ::Knock on wood, fingers crossed:: (Hayden was also FF so I am not sure how true the BF=less ear infections is)>

  • Cal had a whole slew of them in a row last winter/spring - 2 of which were double ear infections.  After the 4th or 5th in a row, he started osteopathic manipulation therapy and hasn't had one since (knock on wood)!  You should ask your pedi about it.
Childhood cancer (DH) + chemo + radiation = 0 sperm.
    LO #1 - 1 unmedicated/self-monitored IUI w/ donor sperm.
    LO #2 - 1 m/c, 2 BFNs, 4th IUI worked (unmedicated/self-monitored with new donor sperm).
    Life is beautiful!

  • I always felt the same way when DD got sick. My pedi put it to me this way..bf babies are "generally healthier or less likely to be sick" but that doesn't mean they won't get sick but when they do get sick they probably have a better tolerance of the illness because of your antibodies..so many more factors are involved in why your baby gets sick.

    Hope C gets better soon!!!

  • I had a TON of ear infections as a child and we are just finishing our first round of meds for one of our girls.

Hope your LO feels better soon!

ETA - my mom EBF me for an entire year. So, apparently I didnt get that memo either as a baby. :-)

  • Oh no poor Caroline!  I hope she feels better soon.
