Pumping while commuting?

Hi there, I go back to work on Thursday and a friend of mine told me she pumped on the way to and from work using the battery pack on her PISA.  It sounded odd to me at the time (this was before I had DD) but now I'm thinking it would be a big timesaver.  Does anyone else do this?  I'm still a bit skeptical.

Re: Pumping while commuting?

  • I pumped in the car one time when I was driving home from the airport and hadn't pumped in hours and hours.  It seemed a little dangerous to me, although I guess if you have a hands-free bra (I did), it might be okay.

It wouldn't be something I chose to do.  I usually pumped right when I got into the office while I was checking email and getting ready for the day.

  • I've heard of women doing this.  They obviously do it hands free.  Get in the car, get them selves set up, etc, then off they go.

  • I have never done this, nor will I ever get why people do this.

  • Yes I've done this a number of times. Better than a battery pack, I had the adapter to run off the car battery. Yes, you must go hands free. And yes, it was a GREAT way to multitask. I had a 40 minute commute and sometime client meetings would go long in the afternoon, thus causing me to miss my pumping time. I would then pump in the car. And since BM is created on demand, it was no issue to then get home and nurse.
  • I personally would not do this but I do know some people who have done it.

This is what I did!  I also worn a hooter hider over top... as to not get other drivers attention!!

You've got to multitask ALL the time!!! GL to you

  • I have pumped while driving and/or while parked in a parking lot.  I have a car charger for the pump.  I also use a nursing cover and a hands free bra.  I get fully hooked up and start pumping while stopped in a parking lot.  If I have to get somewhere, I will then start driving.  I haven't had a problem and it is great time saver when I'm running from place to place and still need to pump.

When I'm done, I put the pumped milk into a mini cooler with ice packs.

  • I've done it a few times (running late in the am or have an extra errand to run right after work before I pick up my girls). I got a pump-ease, made things so much easier!
