She didn't register for it and she doesn't want it, so it is "useless" to her. I wouldn't read into it that she thinks they are "useless" for everyone.

I'm a big babywearing fan but I know that not everyone is interested in BWing. Further, she received a sling which not everyone feels comfortable using. I could never get the hang of my ringsling so a sling is "useless" to me.

Even when I receive gifts for LO I don't like or want I do not deem them useless. But, I don't get why one would think a carrier is useless anyway.

I just think it's funny that people think they know exactly how they're gonna parent and exactly what they're gonna need. If she doesn't want it, fine. But if she gets a colicky baby that won't let her put her down, I'll be interested to see if her viewpoint changes.

Some of my favorite things I have were things I didn't register for but friends with babies picked out. I had no idea what I'd need/want. It's impossible to really know and that advice/"useless" gifts have been invaluable.

Eh. It's just something she doesn't think she'll need.

We went shopping over the weekend, and I told DH I would put DD2 in the moby while we shopped. His response - I can just carry her. So he carried her the whole time in the store. That's pretty much what we did with DD1 too. Both girls like/liked to be high so they can look around.

I wouldn't put it on The Bump but I received gifts for my LO that were "useless" to me because I never used them. There were also things that people gave me because they thought I needed them and I didn't need.

BTW, I think I've seen AP moms complaining about how they got strollers as gifts and how it was [useless] because they didn't intend to use the stroller. Let's be honest here...the OP comes across a little obnoxious but if she was saying that something non-AP was "useless" it wouldn't have been commented on here. Even if her tone was the exact same.

And I can totally understand why someone would think that a sling (that's what is being discussed here - a sling - not all baby carriers) is "useless." My ringsling is completely useless to me because I could never get the hang of it. It's sitting in a drawer and will probably never be used. I can also understand why someone would think that a baby carrier is "useless." Not all moms BW. It's a personal preference. I bought my DH an Ergo when the LO was about 4 months and he's used it about 3 times. He just doesn't feel comfortable using it and would rather carry her.

Despite growing up around tons of babies there certainly wasn't anything I deemed useless until DD was here and I knew what we were truly in for. I still have gifts people gave me that we didn't register for that are sitting unopened and unused... while I prefer to BW DD in the store now, some day I might want that shopping cart cover. At the same time, there are things that I thought I wouldn't be able to live without that turned out to be a complete waste. (her crib!)

I guess what I'm saying is until your LO is there I really don't understand how one can determine if something is useless or not.

I use a stroller with 23-pound DD now sometimes, so I'd be one of them. In fact, the only reason I still have my stroller is because when I asked whether or not I should sell it (when it wasn't being used at all) the people on this board told me it would be very useful in the future.

Same goes for any other 'non-AP gadgets'. That's one of the things I like about this board. It's not just hard core AP radicals...it's full of posters from all different 'levels of AP-ness' and all different situations, from SAHMs, WMs, BFers, FFers, BWers and not, bed-sharers and not, etc. And the majority of them are very level-headed and open-minded.

That's the thing. You had the wisdom not to say anything about it. I did too. I was actually quite upset at the time (hormones and all) after my shower that nearly nothing was purchased from my registry. Not so much b/c what I got was "useless" but b/c I worked really hard on setting it up so people would know what I thought I needed. But honestly a lot of it was useless and I returned, sold, and donated A LOT of it. But the only person who knew was DH. I knew better than to publicly post about what an ungrateful twat I was.

Well obviously it was specifically posted on this board b/c BWing is an AP practice. Why would we care if she posted about the uselessness of recieving blankets? We wouldn't. That doesn't change the fact that she sounds like an ungrateful twat. Not to mention that plenty of parents who don't call themselves AP find carriers incredibly useful at some point in their child's life.
Her biggest problem is she made herself sound more bratty and more bitchy with every additional post.

I never come over here and honestly it has nothing to do with this post exactly but I didn't want to start a whole new post about this. What is a WM, FF, bed-sharer (obvioulsy that should be obvious)? Also, what is attachment parenting, I've seen this board but never really known what it is?
