NOT debating flu shot... but when? A poll

We have mandatory flu & H1N1 shots at work, so I don't even need to debate whether or not I will get one (if I want to keep my job, that is!)

I have been doing a little reading about whether the flu shot is totally safe during the first trimester.  I was scheduled to get the shot at work on Thursday, just shy of 11weeks.  I decided to call my OB to find out what he thought.  I just got a call back from his nurse, and my OB is recommending to wait until after 12/13 weeks to get the flu shot.  His words were "you and the baby will be much safer"

So -- question of the day... when are you getting your flu shot??

  • I am going to try and push it back until at least 2nd tri!! After having a m/c last time, I won't even take tylenol for a headache. I don't want anything that the OBGYN didn't approve first.

That being said, I go to OBGYN Nov 3rd and I'll be around 14 weeks, we'll see what she says then, maybe she'll give it to me!

  • My OB also said 12 weeks and she'll do it, so that's what we're doing.

  • Now you're making me second guess my decision.  My job is also doing them, this Friday. I scheduled for the one without mercury/thimerasol. I called my doctor today just to confirm that I should not wait until the 2nd tri and the nurse told me "we don't recommend waiting"

  • My personal opinion is that doctors that tell you to wait do it so you won't blame the flu shot/them if you miscarry. I haven't seen any actual study or data suggesting a reason to wait. It is really dangerous if you manage to catch the flu in first tri - the year I had it, I spiked a sudden and high fever. Wouldn't want to try that now.

This is what my RE's office said as well.  I had mine about2 weeks ago.

  • I'm getting mine from my OB at my next appointment (10 weeks).  I was suprised when I posted a question about the flu shot about a month ago that I got so many replies stating not to get it during 1st tri.  I asked my OB about this and she said it is an outdated recommendation.  I trust her advice and am getting it as soon as possible.

  • I got in my OB/Peri's office at 10 1/2 weeks.  He said there is no reason not to get it at the end of 1T.

  • My Midwife recommended getting it as soon as it was available, so I got it at my first appointment. Some folks at my husband's office have already had the flu!

  • I got mine last week. I thought about waiting for 2nd tri but I just didn't want to risk getting the flu. My doc was fine with it so that was enough for me!

  • I'm waiting, but only because my doctor's office doesn't have flu shots in yet for people under 64 lol. I've never even gotten a flu shot before, but I guess there's a first time for everything!
