GAHHHHHH
This has to be the MOST idiotic sentence ever.
Just because your mom did something
Your sister did something.
You did something through one of your previous pregnancies.
and your baby is "perfectly fine"
DOES NOT MEAN ITS SAFE!!!!!!!!!!
It could be safe. You could have just been lucky. Or, there could be something going on deeper than what you can see.
Re: They did it with (grandma, mother, first pregnancy) so it safe.
This is the common argument for using bumpers in the baby's crib. Silly.
My MIL has also decided that "nowadays people go overboard with 'safety' for babies". Ummmmm.. what? One of her fine examples was - "we used a bassinet baby seat in the car and it wasn't even strapped in!". Right.

joy of being adopted! My mom has no clue...haha
I agree, it is annoying. Times change!!!
oh ya. That has to be the worst one I've ever hear actually.
Story time.
My uncle is a total alcohol pusher A$$ wipe.
He offers H a beer the first time they met (nice gesture right?)
H gives me a look asking if its ok.
I remind him I can't drive stick and we came in his car (bogus lie, I just didn't want him getting drunk w my Dbag uncle)
My uncle starts going off about how its one beer, he can drive fine, yadda yadda.
It pissed me off so bad I bitched him out right there
"Mike, YOU might think its cute, or funny or MANLY for my husband to drive his pregnant wife home after drinking. But I do not think its anything less than selfishly placing the ones you love him harms way. By even insinuating it might be ok makes me ashamed to even call you family right now."
This came after years of him pushing alcohol on everyone, ok mike I get it, you're an alcoholic and it makes you feel better about yourself if someone drinks with you.
I absolutely don't think its ok to drink and drive EVER, no matter how much, or little you had.
UGH. my poor H just stood in the middle with this face
it really depends on the issue, but i agree with you most of the time.
the smoking while pg and not caring about current car seat standards drive me up a fvcking wall, however i think all the food stuff and no caffeine or alcohol is under researched and docs in this country use it to cover their ass (hello, sue happy country!). i think if many of the beverage/food risks were super high we'd see statistics supporting that in other countries that consume raw fish on the regular or drink wine moderately or eat brie cheese every other meal.
i feel ya. my mother in law is a moron. I heard THIS while pregnant with my first....and SECOND, "well i smoked through all three of my pregnancies and was around people who smoked and all my kids are fine"
uh no they're not. only my husband turned out normal!
word.
This. I don't think the whole "well I did it and my baby is fine" is a valid arugment, but I do think it's ridiculous how much we worry about now.
My grandmother-in-law said that to me about:
*cleaning cat litter boxes without gloves while pg
*painting with LEAD paint while pg
*lifting couches to be vacuumed under while pg
*not buckling up while pg
*not having a baby in a car seat AT ALL
The list goes on, really. I really don't know that to say to her- "My doctor told me..." doesn't cut it with her.
