why would sperm count decrease?

please do not laugh at my question.  my h got me pregnant the one time we did not use anything 5 years ago.  he had also impregnated other women way before i came on the scene.  (who chose to abort).  why would his numbers decrease in 5 years?  he does not smoke, do drugs, or drink for that matter. he is overweight but has been over weight his entire life and was bigger when he got me pregnant. 
I always wanted to be a mom, I just didn't know how I would get there.

    Fertility is a moving dynamic.  Many things can change it.  My H also got someone else pregnant yrs ago, and now has had a count as low as 100k.

    It is just something that can change over time.  Ur DH could have gotten an infection, which can cause a blockage (thus decreasing count) etc.

    It's really just something that can drastically change over time.

    Oy vey! I am worried about this for my DH as well. He hasn't had an SA in almost 4yrs. and he does smoke... has for 10yrs. :( I am looking forward/dreading his SA in Nov just because I wanna know!

    Dx -Ute cancer, DOR from cancer treatments, and embryo quality issues. NOV 2010 CANCER FREE
    2005-2011= 3 Rounds of Clomid, 5 IUI's, 3 IVF's- ALL BFN's
    After 7yrs TTC, 5yrs of ute cancer, and 11 failed IF treatments, we got a surprise BFP! So thankful!

    I don't have an answer to your question but my DH has a 9 year old from his first marriage and now has a count from 200,000 - 500,000. 

    TTC #1 and Only Since August 2008 DH: Severe Male Factor Infertility (Diagnosed July 2009) Me: Clean bill of health 2 IVF w/ICSI cycles + 2 FET = 3 BFP = 3 Chemical Pregnancies FET #2 = BFN Tired of IVF - Trying for a miracle with IUI IUI #1 - 1.1 Million Motile = BFN Surprise Natural BFP on 1/10/12...Praying this is our take home baby

    My DH had borderline count and molitly..I was told by the nurses that the sperm that is released was created 72 days ago...So what-ever was happening in life at that time can effect...extreem heat...excersize...stress...ect.  But it's still pretty unpredictable.  I dont know if that helps...but it's interesting anyway.

    hmmm interesting.  well let's see since he had his first test he got hurt on the job was home for 6 months then started a business, i totaled the car.... yup stress was/is present.....

    thank ladies.

    My husband's counts vary wildly. At my first IUI it was 8 million and the month after it was 80 million (they only used 40 million) . I don't understand any of those manly bits :)
