Traffic Court-Vent

Just a little vent- I got a ticket for speeding on base, 43 in a 35, and now I have to go to traffic court on base. I understand how this works, we have a limited amount of 'points' we can get and then our driving priviledges on base get revoked.

I have lived on this base for about 5 years and have never had a ticket. I'd  rather just pay a fine then have to go and get reprimanded by a senior chief or whoever. I know what I did.

Especially because DH is away and I have a newborn to deal with....pain in the butt.

  • Eh...sorry, but no IVYs.

I know I sound p!ssy, but the facts are, there are more pedestrians on a base then there are in real life.

There are more kids milling about than there would be in real life, even in places you would not expect, since parent give their kids more leaway to roam because of the base's safety.  This is one of the few reasons why I would ever want to live on base.

I would hope that the base took its speed rules to heart.

  • While Ilumine is right about speeding. . . I also vaguely remember the days when my LO was four weeks old (that time period is a little fuzzy!), getting out the door is a challenge. I'm sure that if you are respectful and acknowledge that you've learned your lesson, it won't be terrible. I hope your DH is home soon to enjoy your LO and to give you some support (heck, even adult conversation is nice!).

  • I know it's frustrating, but if they let people just pay a fine, even for first offenses only, the speed limits would not be taken as seriously as they need to be.  Like pp said there are far more children running around on a base than in a normal town, then add to that the number of service members walking to and from work, the commissary, px, wherever... you have a lot more pedestrians than usual.  Having to take time out of your day to go to court and get lectured is definitely going to make someone think a lot harder about going even a couple miles over the limit than just forking over a fine will.

Good luck, I hope it's relatively painless!
