1st Trimester

how many weeks were you when you heard the heartbeat from home?

I just bought a fetal doppler and I am confused about how to hear the heart beat. The doppler is definatly picking up something but i dont think its the heart beat. I am 11w1d today how many weeks where you when you could hear it in the doc office or at home on a doppler?

  • Never tried but could not hear either at the OB office until 16w.

  • You're still really early to hear the HB at home. Most docs won't even try until 12 weeks. GL though! Try googling fetal heart beat to see if they have any sound files to get an idea.
  • I was able to hear mine around 12 weeks.  You might be picking up your heartbeat, try putting it right above the center of your pubic bone and move the doppler around very slowly and see if you can pick it up that way.  Also, if you happen to have a retroverted uterus, it might be a little longer before you're able to hear it.
  • I heard it yesterday, right at the end of week 9.  My midwife made me promise not to cry if we didn't hear it though! She basically said what pp posted about not trying until week 12.  GL!  It was kind of tricky she had to go back and forth bit.

  • It was a day or two before 10wks! You'll know a difference with yours if you've found that compared to finding babies...definetely a ton faster and kinda more of a wooshing sound

  • we had one with DD and heard the HB at home at 9 weeks.  Heard it at the doctor's office at 10.5 weeks.

no doppler for this baby...so hopefully we'll hear it at our next appt. at 11 weeks :)

  • Even though its a bit early for the doppler at home, I am so jealous. That is awesome that you have it. If I had one I'd use it all the time! Have fun with it :)
  • Heard it today and I'm at 7 weeks. I don't have a doppler at home but I'm and x-ray tech so my friends looked me up in ultrasound today. If I were you, I would wait to see my doctor instead of playing with a doppler. You are just stressing yourself for nothing with that thing.
  • I have a doppler too and I tried to find the heartbeats last week but I couldn't hear anything but my own heartbeat.  We saw the babies on monday and they are both fine.  I think I'm goign to wait till after my OB appt next saturday to try again at home.  I kind of feel like I'm clueless about where to look for the babies and even after a few attempts I couldn't find anything.  I have a few friends who used theirs at home around 9 weeks and heard the heartbeat.
  • It depends too if you have an actual doppler or if you have one of the "fetal listening devices" which is just an amplifier - You can hear the heartbeat much earlier with the doppler than you can the amplifier.

  • I got our doppler at exactly 11 weeks and heard it that night-the first time it took a while to actually find it. I place the wand in the middle of my pelvis at my hair line-directly under my belly button. Make sure to move the want slowly so that you don't miss it! Good Luck!
