High-Risk Pregnancy

IUGR-I'm 31 weeks and baby's estimated weight is 2lb15oz

I lost my first baby at 36 weeks, cause was never determined. Now three years later I am pregnant again. Was diagnosed with IUGR. Baby's belly is measuring super small, approx 10th percentile. I'm scared to death. Going to my ob weekly and a high risk ob weekly for NST/with dopplor, BPP, and AFI. High risk ob says if we deliver before 34 weeks the baby is at risk for cerebral palsy but is concerned about keeping her in too. Anyone ever been in my shoes?

  • I just posted about this below! I have been in your shoes before with my first DD and my OB thinks we are headed that way with this baby as well. Do you know how many weeks your baby's abdomen is measuring in relation to the head and femur? What percentile is baby's total body weight right now? DD was not diganosed IUGR until about 30 weeks pregnant and when I delivered her abdomen was in the 6th percentile with her total body weight in the 17th percentile. She was born at 38 weeks weighing 5 lbs 13 oz. She had difficulty with contractions/pushing as her heart rate would decel big time and after birth had trouble breathing and regulating her heartbeat but she is doing great now and a healthy, happy, almost 2 year old! Hang in there and keep us posted on how you are doing- I know how scary it can be and am terrified to go through it again with LO #2!

  • I'm super late in posting this but we found out our LO was measuring only in the 8th percentile at 34 weeks.  I had high blood pressure but at my c-section we found out that I have a Unicornuate Uterus (half a uterus).  DS was only 3 lbs. 10 oz. at 36 weeks.  They think 1-2% of women have UU. I just wanted to share my story with you and tell you you are in my thoughts and prayers.  I'm so sorry to hear about your first baby.  How sad.  =(

  • Thanks for all of the feedback. So far there has been no changes. I have been told to increase my calorie intake and drink a lot more water than the recommended 8 glasses per day. They are measuring her again this Friday to see if she has put any weight on. They are planning to take her 4-6 weeks early. Her belly is measuring approx 4 weeks behind. I go to my OB every Tuesday and the high risk OB every Friday. Thanks for all of the thoughts and prayers.
  • Was lurking and saw this.  How are things going.  My son (now 20 months) was IUGR.  I was diagnosed at 34 weeks and put on hospital bed rest until they got him out at 36 weeks (wasn't gaining any weight).  His head was measuring 3 weeks behind and abdomen was even more.  I remember them saying that it is very common for the stomach to be more behind as their bodies know to give the head and brain what it needs over everything else.  Well, Finn ended up being 4lbs 2 oz at 36 weeks...scored a 9  on the APGAR. Besides being underweight for a while has always been a very healthy boy.  I hope the same for you.  Just wanted you to know there are happy endings.  I truly hope you and baby are doing well:)
  • I just found out two weeks ago that my DS was only 3 lbs.  Went back to the Dr, and he was 3.6 lbs two weeks later.   Can you please tell me all that you did, that may have contributed to him being  healthy?  Will you describe in detail the regime they put you on, ie, the bed rest regime/ along with diet?  I just want to do all I can do for a healthy son and good outcome.  Thanks so much!!
