Re: ??? Weekly Check-in ???
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? A week from Tuesday, then every week after that. Most exciting - my mat leave begins in 3 weeks! (we get the 2 weeks before our due date off - yay!) I can. not. wait. 1. there's so much I still need to do. 2. i'm so over this working thing, hah.
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Sleeping well continues to be my biggest challenge. Also, part of my left thigh has been slightly numb for about 2 weeks; midwife thinks the baby's head is pressing on a nerve. I don't want to try a chiropractor to be moving things around while baby's head is there, and I don't know that PT will help, so just waiting it out. Generally not a problem, except my entire leg falls asleep pretty often while I'm sleeping on my left - which is how I've been sleeping this entire pg - and wakes me up. Definitely not helping my sleep, so now I'm trying to sleep a little on my right side.
(5) How often do you plan to have "date nights" with YH after the baby? Mamas, how often do you actually have "date nights" with YH after the baby? great question. no idea...i think we're just planning to do whatever we can to get through the first few months first! we did just buy a 4 hr glassblowing private lesson off groupon though, as a xmas present to ourselves, with the intention that it will force us out of the house at least once before it expires next oct
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 16 weeks today! So far it's been flying by, but I probably won't be saying that later on
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Still feeling good. I went out of town this weekend and during part of our road trip I went too long without eating and I felt nauseuas for the first time and I thought I was going to pass out. Just a friendly reminder that I need to watch that.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? I go in for my blood work on Thursday that I think is the 3rd part of my NT scan? But the BIG u/s is on Nov. 3rd, just 2 weeks away!
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Still feeling the same so nothing yet (knocks on wood)
(5) How often do you plan to have "date nights" with YH after the baby? Mamas, how often do you actually have "date nights" with YH after the baby? I hope we can at least do once a month to go out on a date night
(7) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (We're almost out of new questions!) How do you keep yourself positive, less stressed and motivated during your pregnancy? I have such a problem with thinking about all of the negative things that it's hard to stay positive and not get anxious about pregnancy.

(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 11 months & some weeks
(2) Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? He's trying to walk and it's so funny. He'll cruise til the cows come home, but then he'll try to let go and take one or two steps, then plop! And he'll LAUGH! Or he'll take 2 steps in b/t the couch and a toy. He's too funny. He thinks he's very cool.
He did get to play with other kids twice this week though, and that was interesting to see him interact.
(3) Next appointment date? 12 month well visit - seems they do shots and take blood? can't wait for that - oh joy.
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? teething - everytime I look in his mouth, it seems like there's another tooth getting ready to pop through!
(5) Mamas, how often do you actually have "date nights" with YH after the baby? We had one - about 2-3 weeks after he was born, but we haven't really had any since b/c we don't have a baby sitter and b/c of his separation anxiety issues.
(6) Mamas: How often does YH use the baby carrier? never - he doesnt' like any of them (I have 3) He would rather just hold him.
(7) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (We're almost out of new questions!) I think it's helpful to do repeat questions, especially since the search function is so unsearchable!
I love Hawaii!

(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Still doing well. I've been getting a little nauseous in the evenings, but it's pretty mild.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? My NT scan in on Friday. I'm less freaked out about it. Hoping for good news.
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? I'm still waiting for my energy level to improve. I'm in bed at a ridiculously early time.
(5) How often do you plan to have "date nights" with YH after the baby? Mamas, how often do you actually have "date nights" with YH after the baby? I hope we can have a weekly date night.
(7) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (We're almost out of new questions!) How did/do you think your DH or significant other do/will do in the delivery room?

(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?she's walking!! and i don't remember if i mentioned it in the last check in but she has her 2nd tooth coming in
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?monday for her flu booster, then not again until her 1 yr appt in Nov
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?dealing with traveling/time zone changes/naps!!! we left for TN on saturday to visit the grandparents and yesterday she napped for 30 min in the morning and that was it until bedtime!!! thankfully i think she is back on track today
(5) How often do you plan to have "date nights" with YH after the baby? Mamas, how often do you actually have "date nights" with YH after the baby?hmmm when i was PG i thought i would want to do it weekly. then she was born and i thought we should do it monthly once we got past the newborn phase...well, she is almost a year old and we had our 1st date night in Sept for our 5 yr anniversary. it's been hard b/c we don't really have family here and our previous sitter lived 45 min away so it did not make sense to ask her to come watch her for an hour or two while we were gone.
hoping to make it more regular now that we have a sitter close by; also thinking about trading off w/babysitting for date nights w/another nestie that lives nearby
(6) Mamas: How often does YH use the baby carrier?occasionally but not often. he usually wants me to carry her.

1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
27 weeks tomorrow! I can't believe I'm almost in the 3rd trimester.
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
Feeling pretty good, but my mobility is definitely decreasing. My belly popped around 25 weeks, and it's been harder and harder to move and get comfortable.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Tomorrow morning actually. I will be doing my 1 hour glucose test, which I'm definitely not excited about.
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
Discussing with DH our plans for visitors once we give birth. I'd be curious to hear what others have done. We cannot see eye to eye on when our parents should visit us with baby on the way. I definitely want my mom there with me (on top of being my mom, she's a nurse, which makes me more comfortable in a hospital setting.) DH definitely wants his folks there too, although they can be a bit overwhelming at times.
(5) How often do you plan to have "date nights" with YH after the baby? Mamas, how often do you actually have "date nights" with YH after the baby?
We don't do many "date nights" as it is, but we are always together. We actually went out on a "date" this past weekend. So I don't know...guess we will have to see if we use a babysitter or not.
(6) Mamas: How often does YH use the baby carrier?
(7) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (We're almost out of new questions!)
I'll have to think of something....But I guess my question above in #4: Who will be in the delivery room with you? And how are you handling visits from ILs and visitors?
TTCers: Which cycle are you on? Where in the cycle are you? What, if anything, are you doing/trying for TTC success?
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? They'll be 6 months old in 2 days!
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Not bad! They slept from 9pm-5.30am last night, which is the first time they've slept that long in a month...so I'm hoping we're over whatever wakeful hurdle we came across lol!
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Next...Tuesday, I think? It's their 6 month checkup.
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Getting into the right frame of mind to go back to work tomorrow. In one way I'm ready to go back and am looking forward to it (scheduled meals! bathroom breaks whenever I want them!) but at the same time I'm not - partly because I'm REALLY going to miss my little guys and also because quite a few of my coworkers have been telling me some bad things about how the culture there has changed in the last 6 months (to the point where 2 of them are leaving).
(5) How often do you plan to have "date nights" with YH after the baby? Mamas, how often do you actually have "date nights" with YH after the baby? Since the boys have been born, we've been out - just the two of us - I think maybe 4 or 5 times? Not very often. We've discussed going out more, but we're actually both fine with infrequent dates. We didn't tend to go out to eat a lot before the boys were born anyway, so it's not like it was something we did a lot that we miss a lot now that we can't do it so easily any more. *shrug*
(6) Mamas: How often does YH use the baby carrier? I think he used the Moby wrap twice? Which is more than I used it.
We just carry them or put them in the stroller. I think it was just too fiddly for both of us - I think we'd have used something like the Ergo a lot more.
(7) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (We're almost out of new questions!) How did you introduce/do you plan on introducing solids? Have you had any unwanted baby gifts (and what did you do with them)? How has having a baby affected your relationships with family members other than your DH? How has having a baby affected your relationships with friends?
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?Pretty good. He's crawling all over the place now so I'm in a rush to babyproof now =P
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?6 months.
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?Getting him to poop. He went 8 days without it and finally did it today!
(5) How often do you plan to have "date nights" with YH after the baby? Mamas, how often do you actually have "date nights" with YH after the baby?We watched one movie and I think that was it. We originally planned at least every month, but after I started working, that kinda went out the window because I wanted to spend my free time with LO. But now that I'm working from home more now, we're gonna plan for more
(6) Mamas: How often does YH use the baby carrier?Very often in the beginning! He used to carry LO with him when he took the dogs out potty. Now, not so much because I want to carry him all the time =P
(7) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (We're almost out of new questions!)
Drawing a blank this time around. =P
He's crawling? That's awesome but now I'm depressed...I know it's super common for twins to be a bit behind the curve developmentally, but I was all happy this week that they both roll over all the time and can sit up. And they're nearly 6 months.
I'm new to the boards, so I thought I would "check-in"
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 25wd2
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
I'm feeling okay, other than been really tired. I think I have been feeling the baby moving. If it feels like fluttering or a jellyfish, lol, then I'm there. This is big because I was feeling nervous/disappointed that I couldn't feel her yet.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
I go for my next check-up on Friday. I think it's going to be fairly routine. I always like hearing her heartbeat.
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
Challenge.. hmm.. I am currently at war (sort of) with my MIL over a used car seat. It makes me upset because we have never had a fight before. But I fell like every time she brings up the car seat issue, I'm a bad mother. (Basically, I wanted to buy a used car seat on CL but she told me, "No grandchild of mine will sit in a used car seat!" It's really bringing me down, especially because DH is on her side.
(5) How often do you plan to have "date nights" with YH after the baby?
I have no idea. LOL. I'm sure her Granny (my mom) would LOVE to take her so we could go out, but I don't know if I will want to leave her. I guess we should try to go out and have grown-up time, at least twice a month.
(6) Mamas: How often does YH use the baby carrier?
n/a (He better use it often! LOL)
(7) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (We're almost out of new questions!)
What are you most looking forward to? What did BR item have you slurged on? What's the best advice you were given?
Awww, don't be depressed! Your boys aren't even behind at all! I remember when you mentioned your boys were rolling, I was still wondering when B would start rolling. Every kid develops at different paces in different areas, and who knows why they choose to focus on one more than another. B was a bit behind on rolling IMO (he still doesn't roll from back to front very often) so I think he's making up for it by moving around belly-down instead. He's not crawling with his butt up yet, but he's doing an army crawl on his forearms & hands and he gets pretty far pretty quickly by dragging his arms towards where he wants to go and shuffling on his knees. His tummy is still dragging on the floor though. In the beginning, he'd just drag himself around in a circle on his arms but now that he knows he can use his knees, he's getting farther & faster (still pretty slow, but fast enough that I can't turn away from him for more than a minute since we don't have the baby gates up yet and he got really close to the top of the stairs today =/). And his knees are getting red from carpet burn too...now I'm wondering if I should've gotten some of those babylegs...
Congrats and welcome to the board!
To be honest, I'm on your MIL and DH's side about the carseat. The problem with carseats is that if they've been in even just one small accident, they need to be replaced...and obviously a CL seller can easily lie and say they've never been in an accident even if they have been, since there isn't an easy way to tell from just looking at the seat. The only exception I might make is if you got it from a very trustworthy friend who hadn't used it long and you knew for a fact that it had never been in an accident.
I'm super frugal and was willing to buy used and save $$$ for pretty much everything else, but I still spent the cash on new carseats - it just wasn't worth the risk to me, even if it was very minor risk.
Ditto on the welcome!! And I also agree about that seat...we actually initially got a second-hand seat from a trustworthy friend but it was over 6 years old, so we had to end up getting a new one anyway (the plastic can snap and break from time so 6 years--from manufacture date--is the longest you can safely use a car seat). But I would definitely caution against getting it from a stranger off of CL. You can never know for sure whether it's been in an accident or not.
ditto both these ladies! welcome
i think if it were a matter of parenting style/preference it would be one thing but i think your MIL (and DH) is thinking of the baby's safety so i would put the issue aside and get the new car seat
we bought almost everything for DD used, too, but not the car seat.

Thanks to mrspresley, inamara, redshoegirl in regards to the car seat. It's nice to hear some other opinions about the issue.
Everything you guys said makes sense. I guess I wasn't really thinking about how you can't trust people even though they say one thing, especially if you don't know them.
I had bought a stroller & car seat set from our old neighbors. We didn't know them super well, but they were really nice people. On one hand, I don't believe that they ever were in a car accident, but I guess there really isn't any way to know for sure. I had bought it way before we got pregnant because it was pretty much the exact one I had wanted and it was such a great price.
So, now, that MIL is saying, no used car seat, I feel like.. 1) I wasted my money on this other car seat & 2) why get another one if we already have one? & 3) maybe I am putting LO in danger by not knowing.
And now, with all of the good input about not really knowing and of course you want LO to be 100% safe, especially in the car, I fear that MIL will almost rub it in my face if I decide to go with the new one. I guess I just gotta suck it up. Especially, because MIL is the one who wants to buy the new one. Hah.
You can still use the other car seat for the stroller part of it. That's what we ended up doing with the hand-me down travel system. Yes, it was a bit tedious having TWO car seats + 1 stroller (since the original car seat is the infant carrier part of the stroller), but it was the money-saving route. What we did was we got a convertible seat, so we wouldn't be "wasting" $ since you're gonna have to get a convertible seat when your LO grows out of the infant car seat anyway. Then you can use the stroller part even when LO older. So in the beginning, you'd just have the infant seat in the car for using the stroller when LO is still too small since you have to unstrap LO from the car seat to get him/her out anyway with the convertible seat. (We did end up getting a new travel system later anyway, but that's only because I happened to see one on clearance for $59 and couldn't pass it up since it was such a good deal.)
You don't have to tell MIL that "she was right" or whatever. Just tell her that you're just using it since you got it for LO to grow into and it's easier to just install the seat once rather than install the infant seat and then uninstall it to install the convertible when LO is older (which is true) =P She doesn't need to know details...
Hi Sandra, Could you add me to the list?
expatjen (jen) - Baby boy (Kannan Aukai), born July 5, 2010
Thanks!
-----------
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? K is 15 weeks, 1 day old(2) Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? K can now roll over pretty regularly now, but he only goes from back to front. He hasn't figured out how to go from front to back yet. (3) Next appointment date? He just had his 14/15 week vaccinations yesterday - 2 injections and 1 oral. He did really well and had no fever (yay!)(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? We're trying to get K used to being with my MIL for more than 15 minutes at a time. We have an event to go to next week and K's never been without either of us for longer than 15-20 minutes. So we have a big challenge ahead of us! (5) Mamas, how often do you actually have "date nights" with YH after the baby?(7) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (We're almost out of new questions!) 1. Does LO sleep in a separate bedroom? If so, when did you make that transition? 2. What is your typical day like with LO? How long is he/she awake at a stretch?
1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 4.5 months
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? very tired. He had his 4 mon check up last week and weighed in at 16.1 lbs and 26 in. He rolls very easily from back to stomach but gets very mad when he can't get back over...this happens at night a lot too. He started solids after his dr. appt last week too.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? In december for his 6 mon check up
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? he has gone from sleeping pretty much all night to only sleeping a few hrs at a time and it is killing me!!!
(5) How often do you plan to have "date nights" with YH after the baby? Mamas, how often do you actually have "date nights" with YH after the baby? he have gone out twice since he came but hopefully we will be able to make it more regular
(6) Mamas: How often does YH use the baby carrier? I have tried to get him to use it several times but he refuses
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 3 months on Friday!!!
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Exhausted! I went back to work yesterday., and it's wearing me out, though I know I just need to get back into the routine and it'll get better. So far so good with the day care, we're quite pleased so far. I think he's in excellent hands, I just worry about getting enough stimulation and cuddles. I think he is (they send a daily email with pics for all the families), but I still worry, yo know?
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Not 'til 4 months
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Going back to work, definitely.
(5) How often do you plan to have "date nights" with YH after the baby? Mamas, how often do you actually have "date nights" with YH after the baby? Ummm...we haven't yet.
TO be honest, we were never ones to go out a lot, only special occasions. We planned on having my sister babysit, but just haven't gotten around to it yet. It's difficult for us, since we don't have any family in the area except my sister, and I wouldn't trust him with a stranger babysitter yet. Besides, we don't know any! We have gone over to a friends house (who have twins one month older than Henry) a few times, and they've come over once for dinner. That's enough for now!
(6) Mamas: How often does YH use the baby carrier? Once! He likes the concept, just find the execution of getting it on difficult. The one time he used the Moby I had to help him. We have an Ergo, too, though, and I think he'll like that if I can get him to try it.
(7) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (We're almost out of new questions!) Any questions about introducing solids....order of foods, frequency of feedings, what age did you start, etc.
I'm glad we're not the only ones! I always feel like a loser when people ask if we're getting enough alone time (like date nights) and I have to go, "We don't really go out anyway........"
it sounds like you're going through the 4 month wakeful...hang in there, it'll get back to normal soon!
