did/would you buy a used car seat?

I was sure that was one thing I wouldn't want to buy used, but I'm looking on craigslist and seeing a few really good seats from a good area for a great price.  I know anyone can SAY it has never been in an accident and that is the only thing that worries me. 

I'm already looking for convertibles just to get an idea and of course all the top rated are a good 250-300, totally worth it for dd's safety, but I love good deals too...

so would you or did you?  all good or wouldn't recommend it?

    I wouldn't unless I knew the person I was buying it from and knew that it was never in an accident. Also, you don't know how old it is either and they need replacing after five years. I would just buy a new one. I would never put DD in a used car seat that I didn't know its history, her safety is worth more than that.

    no. never from a stranger. are you looking at britax? they have a sale every feb. and sept. of each year. i got one last year for about $180. target also has them on clearance (rare but it happens) depending on the store.

     this blog is great. they do a britax watch post closer to the sale time.

    Never!  Why would you take a chance that it had been recalled or in an accident?  Save money on something else, something that isn't meant to save your child from serious injury or death.

    I do not believe that the "top rated" seats are really that much safer, but the Evenflo Triumph Advance falls into that "top rated" category and it's under $200.

    My convertible seat I bought new. 

    I would put DD in a Cosco Scenera ($45 at Walmart) before I put her in a used expensive carseat. (FWIW, the Scenera actually is considered to be a very safe seat, it just doesn't have much padding and won't hold tall kids as long as some other seats)

    For good deals look at online retailers that are selling last years models of new seats.

    No way, not even a chance. I love a great deal just as much as the next person, but I won't scrimp on safety. You can't trust a stranger w/ your child's life. Who is to say that the carseat wasn't in an accident and they are just looking to cash in? For what it is worth, I just bought my daughter the Britax Marathon in Allie at BRU w/ two coupons. I used the $20.00 off any carseat and a 15% coupon and got it for $224.00. Absolutely worth it in my opinion!

    No, you cannot trust people. We were in a car accident and we threw the seat out as per the impact information (car was?totaled, over 40 mph). NOT EVERYONE IS HONEST! It is just too risky. Buy a good car seat that is cheaper then the britax, that would be much safer.?Seriously?you don't have to spend $250, just b/c its the top rated doesn't mean others are not rated well.?

    No.  Just like I won't put DS on the sides instead of the middle just to make it easier on me.  It's not about me or the cost of a carseat.  It's my baby's safety.  Get the Evenflo Triumph!  I can't tell you how awesome this seat is!!!!
