ah, okay. good to know. I have a bunch of the suppositories and recall my dr talking about the PIO so that's why I was wondering. Thanks for the heads up! I didn't know about the bw part.
My doc gives the option. I chose the PIO shots bc the suppositories were 3x/day vs 1x/day for the shot. The fewer meds I have to worry about, the better.
My doc prescribes both for IVF cycles. PIO at night, supp in the morning. I think I would prefer to do the shots all the time, but this is how they do it and it isn't that bad.
TTC since 8/2004
Me - DX Hashimoto's Disease, Hypothyroid, Rheumatoid Arthritis
DH - DX Azoospermia - Sertoli Cell Syndrome
DS-IUI #1-4 BFN
IVF #1 - BFP! It's a boy!!!
both of the clinics i've been at (cor.nell and sirm) prefer PIO injections. sirm actually does a PIO shot and supp combo.

I am so glad you asked this. Just talked to my RE office today about starting everything up and she mentioned that I have the choice between the shot and the supps. Thanks for everyone's input!

Re: progesterone suppositories vs PIO
Yes.
PIO goes IM - big needle, ugly shot, bruised rear end.
Progesterone Suppository - easier application, messy.
Big difference - Progesterone levels can be measured through bloodwork with PIO. You can't get an accurate measure with the suppositories.
Having done both, I tend to prefer PIO because my RE can measure my progesterone levels and I am that obsessive.
beta#1 3/21 (14dp3dt)=413, beta#2 3/23 (16dp3dt)=785, u/s 4/11
