Success after IF

Tell me about a FET

With my girls I never had to do IVF as Injectables/IUI got us where we needed to be eventually. However, in a few mos I *may* have an opportunity to do a frozen egg transfer. (long story)

Can you tell me what that would involve? I know it's definitely on the light side of meds but which meds, how long, etc.

Re: Tell me about a FET

  • I'm confused. If you never did an Ivf cycle, how will you get frozen embryos?
  • Loading the player...
  • long story - they wouldn't be mine. I would be a gestational carrier.

Anyway, what would it involve? Just making sure I understand everything before I commit.

  • I have a friend who has been a GC for a family twice. Her FETs included a month or so of lupron, BCPs, then estrogen until transfer. She did have some headaches from the lupron, but overall, it was not hard on her or nearly as time consuming as an IVF cycle.

Let us know more when you find out. I am interested in hearing about your situation.

  • Well if you have pretty regular cycles they could do a natural FET and just monitor you up until transfer.  For me I took Lupron and then estrogen pills & patches and progesterone.  Nothing like the injectables.  Really it's a pretty easy process and the transfer is pretty much like an IUI.

  • I did a natural FET to get pg w/ S2.

    It involved:

    - monitoring until O (on my own)

    - a trigger (just 'cuz doc wanted to be "sure")

    - progesterone supps

    - antibiotics for the transfer

That was it. Really light on the meds. The RE did to an SHG and mock transfer before we got started to make sure that my first pregnancy didn't leave any uterine scarring. The rest felt really quick as we just went by my regular cycle periodl

  • It really depends on your RE. I have found that the protocol varies quite a bit depending on you diagnosis. I did 1 month bcp, 1 Lupron Depot injection, Estridiol 3x a day, and an estrogen patch that I changed 2x a week. Five days prior to the transfer I started PIO. It didn't involve as many mess as a fresh ivf cycle but overall it took longer.

  • It does vary quite a bit. I did a month of bcp's (althrough I really didn't HAVE to). I DID NOT do Lupron and went straight to the FET cycle. On CD 2 I started Estrace and then had a lining check at CD 8. Then I did PIO starting CD 12 and thawed embies on CD 15 with a transfer on CD 16.

I think it would be great for you to be a gestational carrier for someone. What a great gift to give to someone.

  • We're just in consideration. The couple hasn't picked us officially yet. We've just been getting to know each other, etc. I want to make sure I protect their privacy but I'll give more details if this is a go. :)

My kids can be challenging some days but generally they're so well behaved. Ana is my chill kid, so I feel like being pg won't be too much trouble. We are set to move into our new home the day before Christmas so I anticipate after all of the legal stuff gets worked out we'd start after that.

  • I think you're pretty cool, Reems.

I sit here crying hoping that someday, someone says they'll do this for us. While I hope, I'm realistic. I could really be broken. Ironically, it's something I always said I would do for someone, before I knew I was so messed up ;-(

I'm doing my FET prep now, super easy. Lupron headaches suck, but other than that, it's just remembering to take my estrace 3x a day.

  • :):):) I know the backstory here and I am thrilled that this might work out!!! You are an incredibly giving, kind person.

I found my FET to be very stress free compared to a fresh cycle. The worst part was probably all the vaginal progesterone - what a mess! LOL!

Good luck! Please keep us posted!

  • I was serious Davez. This is something I've wanted to do. If this doesn't pan out and you come to a place where you are in need, look me up.

Em - hopefully it works out. Like I said, we're just in the exploration stage. :)

  • I think my RE doesn't like me, because my FET has been full of pretty painful injections (more than others).  I did the month of BCP, but that didn't suppress me.  So then I took an Ovidrel shot and started again with Lupron shots.  Then I started taking Estrogen IM every 3 days for almost a month.  Then 5 days before the transfer, I started to take the PIO shots daily (this means, there are some days that I have to take two IM shots- and they have to be separate shots).  Now that I am in fact pregnant, they told me I will be on the PIO shots until after we see a heartbeat (then they will change over to suppositories- but those always give me a yeast infection) and the estrogen will remain IM until I am 12 weeks.  So, my ass is black and blue and it hurts.  But I seem to be the only one who has such a rough med schedule.
