Side-Stitches

Has anyone gotten really bad side-stitches when you started running after you had your baby? I was a big runner before I got pregnant and then ran thought my pregnancy until about week 33 when it just got too uncomfortable. It's been 5 months PP and I've completed the 13 week P90X program and thought I'd start back running. Big fail! I start getting bad side-stitches about a mile into my run. I thought it would go away, but it's been about 3 weeks now. SO frustrating!!! Could it be from organs shifting and moving around from the pregnancy?

Re: Side-Stitches

  • YES!  They were awful!  I ran through my entire pregnancy too -- past 41 weeks the day before I was induced, had a c-section, then started running again about 5 weeks pp.  It was so bad I couldn't even go 2 miles at first.  Basically the only thing that worked was just walking through the side stitches and keeping up with the running.  Now I don't have them anymore and it just took a few weeks.  Good luck!

  • I had them after pregnancy as well.  Sometimes lifting your arm up on the side that you have them and sort of stretching helps.  Otherwise I just ran through them and eventually didn't get them anymore.  I felt like such a newbie at running since I hadn't had them in years!!
