I'm kind of surprised that only 2 of us haven't had an u/s guided ET. I've asked my RE about it and I'm perfectly happy with why he doesn't do them. I'm just surprised so many do.

Re: s/o Worms IVF poll (ticker)
Gen,
My first clinic does not do them regularly, however I requested it and they agreed. It made me feel better after my previous ectopic. I'm not sure it really makes a difference but it was a control thing for me.
My 2nd clinic and 2nd IVF, does them for all IVF's.
5 REs + 3 surgical hysteroscopies for septum/lap + 3 failed IUIs
IVF w/ICSI/AH & acu = BFP!, unexplained spontaneous m/c @ 8w2d (our little girl),
FET w/acu = BFP!, B/G twins!, lost MP @19w, dx w/funneling cervix @20w,
twins nearly lost to IC @21w, saved by rescue cerclage, 17P & 16w of bedrest
Our twins born @36w4d via CS when A came foot first
Thankful for every day
u/s guided is actually newer. My RE noted a significant decrease in success rates when they were using it. He said that sometimes the RE can focus too much on the picture, rather than the technique and you can actually lose embryos that way. He's old school.
Honestly, my RE has awesome success rates. If it ain't broke - i'm certainly not going to try to fix him!
And as an added bonus, I don't have to have a full bladder!

Not a commentary, just wondering how do they see/know what they are doing w/o u/s?

Chaucer and I share the same 1st and 2nd clinics, so like her, my first two IVF's had no u/s guided ET while the third IVF had u/s guided ET.
3 IUI's, 2 IVF's , 1 FET , 1 IVF w/ Gestational Carrier, and 1 FET using adopted embryo's = ALL BFNs
We are adopting!

By feel and measuring, the same way they always did before u/s guided technique came into the picture. Some people are just more comfortable doing things the way they were originally trained.
I kind of think about it this way - i was trained to start IVs one way. The hospital I work at now wants me to do it a different way. I won't. My success rate the way i do it is quite high, thankyouverymuch, and trying to relearn a technique I've already mastered isn't very practical.
Just for the record, embryos don't always stay put even with u/s guided transfer. Until they implant, they can move.

I know that they can move. Clearly, since I got a BFFN. This is what my doctor told me when she explained what was going to happen and why. Doing the external u/s doesnt change how would insert and measure so I guess I just think why not do the eternal u/s and know that they are in the right place (or started there).
