Waterproof crib pads necessary?

If we're getting a mattress that's waterproof, do I also need a waterproof crib pad?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Waterproof crib pads necessary?

  • I don't know if our mattress is waterproof but it isn't organic for sure, so I got a waterproof organic crib pad. I guess I thought it was necessary... the waterproof part, but I also never thought to check if our mattress was waterproof ughhhh

  • Btw off topic, but if you wanted to buy inexpensive organic baby clothes, check out H&M, they have lots of onsies, tops and pants that are 100% organic and very cheap, $2-$5 range, plus this weekend, they had some on sale for $1-$2. Also hudson baby and walmart have an organic baby clothes line thats not expensive either. Just a suggestion if you haven't checked these out already haha
  • Yes.  It's nice to have a waterproof crib pad (or 2) for a couple of reasons 1.) if your baby spits up a lot, it's easier to just take off the waterproof pad and switch it out--you don' have to worry about the sour milk smell all over the crib mattress or about wiping it down, letting it dry, etc. at say, 2 am (the time when these things inevitably happen), 2.) at some point, and you never know when, your babe will probably vomit all over his/her crib (it's nice to have the waterproof crib pad for the above reasons), and 3.) your baby will probably still be in a crib or on the converted toddler bed when you start potty training a few years down the line, and you'll want it then for the same reasons.  I like this crib protector because it's organic and I like that it's a flat, which makes it so much easier to change: https://www.google.com/products/catalog?client=safari&rls=en&oe=UTF-8&q=naturepedic+waterproof+crib+pad&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=15118253823458575578&ei=C5K8TPm9F4aosAOKr52tDw&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CEAQ8wIwAw#ps-sellers

H&M the store? It's like an Express, but has a children's section. They are pretty popular worldwide, don't know if they all have a children's section but all the ones I have gone into in NYC has. Not the widest selections but definitely covers all the basics plus the price is SO reasonable!
